Rode NT1 vs. NT1-A

All I had for a large diaphragm condenser was a Nady SCM900 and wanted to try soemthign differnt so I bought an NT1-A off of Ebay.

When it showed up it was actually an NT1. What's the difference...I mean in technical specs and sonic characteristics not just the missing A.

The seller took forever to respond to me but claimed he would send the NT1-A but 2 more weeks have passed and nothing.

I have tracked a vocal with the NT1 and it sounds extrememly close to the Nady but a little less bright.

I realize all 3 are low end mics but I don't do a ton of singing and would rather buy a better mic when required.

So should I push to get the NT1 swapped for the NT1-A or did I get the better deal?

Thanks
Mike

I don't think the difference would be enough to warrant the headache of dealing with what sounds like a lazy seller. But there are a lot of posts here which claim the NT1 sounds better than the NT1-A.

Actually, the NT1 is Australian-designed, with a Chinese-made capsule. The NT1A is the newer one, which comes with upgraded electronics and an Australian-made capsule in Rode's brand-new state-of-the-art facility. Go to their website. There are interviews on there explaining how everything is made, the quality, etc.

I have an NT1A, and I think it's fantastic. thumbsup thumbsup I haven't, however, A/B-ed it with an NT1, and I have no idea if it would be worth it to go through the hassle of dealing with the lazy seller.

All the NT-1a's I've seen say made in china. I've had a couple of older white NT-1's for awhile and they sound pretty good for what they are. Never compared them though.

Interesting......

Mine says " Made in Australia" also and I bought it only a year and half ago

S/N 0030259

It's OK - My modded MK319 blows it away though...

All NT1-As were made in Australia... RusRant doesn't seem to own one. He seems to be recollecting a memory about some NT1-A look-alike and probably wasn't really paying close attention at the time?

Anyway, mine is 2+ years old and says "made in Australia" as well.

My NT1A is hencho en Australia as well.

IMO, it's the least impressive LD mic I have - I use it as an instrument mic mostly.

How old is the mic?

I have compared both the NT1 and the NT1A on female vocals.......... and it seems that the NT1 seemed to give a little more warmth, life and presence then the NT1A.

So the Chinese capsule is better? That's different...
