Using an analog compressor with an 002 rack

So is there any way I can use an analog compressor with the built in preamps of my 002, with out going a/d d/a a/d? If I put the compressor between my mic and the pre, I cant use phatom power, right? Thanks in adavnce.

It should go like this, Mic>Preamp>Compressor>002 thats how I do it

Do you even have a separate Mic pre other than the 002s pres?

Yes I do, but I just got the black lion audio mod done on my 002, so I would like to use its pres. I know I could bus it to an out put and then back in through an other input, but wouldnt this be adding extra a/d d/a conversions? I mean is there any way to bus strait from an input to an output, with out conversion? I dont think there is.

Try going straight into the 002 and then use the other I/Os of the 002 as an insert

ok, but if I use the othe I/Os as inserts, won't I be doing extra d/a a/d conversions? Does it matter? I would think I would want to avoid it?

if you want to use your comp, you will be unable to use the 002 pres unless you go through an extra set of conversions. you are correct, and this other guy doesn't really understand what you and i are talking about.

for practical purposes, though, try it and see if you like it. plenty of records were made tracking into, and mixing out of, digi 888 converters--which sound WAY worse than 002s. it's all about the music, keep up the good work!

I have the BLA mod. I use my Distressor as an insert and am still happy with the results. Give it a shot.
