Tattoo Vampire guitar tone question

Hi, I know I'm kind of unknown around here, but I'd still appreciate any advice anyone has to give:

You know that really noisy opening repeated chord at the beginning of "Tattoo Vampire" off of Agents of Fortune. Anyone know how they did that? It's basically noise, yet audibly a guitar. I'm thinking they double- or triple-tracked a guitar or two playing different chords (one can emulate noise with merely 10 sine waves, as long as they're all playing different frequencies), but I'm curious if anyone has any insight as to what kind of distortion they think they were using, or any other pointers as to getting that sound as well. I don't want to cover the song (it's perfect as is), but I really like that sound, and want to incorporate either something similar, or something completely different. You know how it is -- you figure out how to do something first, and then see where it takes you, see how it evolves.

My main effects unit is an Alesis Quadraverb GT, which is pretty powerful little device -- the analog stage is a bit noisy, but I can gate the snot out of it for something like this. And it's got (at least) two different kinds of distortion -- what they call "distortion" and "overdrive" (the latter tends to be quite a bit warmer, the former is good for balls out metal like Judas Priesty type stuff)...and a third one, I think (don't have the unit in front of me, at work right now).

Muchas gracias in advance for any advice whatsoever. Oh, and please feel free to tell me if there's a better forum for questions like this, either here or elsewhere.
