Event ALP 5 Experiences, opinions?

I searched around and have found almost no reviews of these monitors, and only a couple of passing references to them here.

I have Event TR5s, which I like, though I find my mixes tend to be a little 'dull' on other systems. Not terribly so, but a tad. So, I've been looking at some other small near field monitors.

I do all of my tracking, and most of my mixing on location, so I prefer to monitor in a 'very near field' setup, with my monitors about 3 feet from my ears, in a triangle.

I'd like to hear opinions on these from any other sluts who've used them, I did hear them today at Sam Ash, and was impressed by the mid-range response. They also sounded a bit smoother and clearer on the top end than the TR6's or TR8's.

Looking forward to hearing some good (or bad) news!

I auditioned these monitors a couple of times, for $350 a pair I really wanted to like them.
I thought they were among the worst sounding monitors I've ever heard. No bass extension at all, tinny high end and really hyped boxy sounding mids.
I A/B'd them against most of the popular offernings out there, and couldn't believe my ears. Went back a week later to check again and came to the same conclusion.

I agree they sound a lot different than most of the others that I compared them to, but I kind of liked them. They reminded me a bit of NS10's with that sort of pronounced mid thing.

What type of monitors did you end up going with?

I saved more dough and picked up the Adam A7's. It was between them and the BM5A's in the end. And I've been happy ever since!

Funny, that's how the Sam Ash salesman tried to sell them to me..."They're meant to sound bad...like the NS10's...that way your mixes will be smoother". My advice, don't buy them until you hear them and compare them to the competition. I wouldn't consider them flat in any way (then again, neither are the Samsons, though in the other direction). If that sound is your thing, ok, but it certainly didn't do it for me.
Not to bash on Event though...the SP8's are fine monitors.

i've been using the ALP5's since they started shipping. I replaced Yorkville YSM-1's (pretty much a copy of the ns-10, i've heard) and I've been pretty happy with them. Some people complain that there's no low end BUT I find them pretty flat enough (definitely a mid-heavy speaker) and they have a lot more detail and a better sound stage than the Yorkville's. I don't need a lot of low end and I mix at a very low decibel level because I have no choice (apartment life).
