Use IK Multimedia Amplitube 2 w/ real effects, Izotope Trash?

I'm considering getting IK Multimedia Amplitube 2 Upgrade (I have a light version of Amplitube bundled with Pro Tools LE 7.1cs10). I'm also attracted to Izotope's Trash.

Some questions:

1. While Amplitube 2 has a load of great stomp and rack effects, the fuzz options are limited (a solid state fuzz preamp and a simulation of the Arbiter Fuzz Face). As I am into recording psychedelic/garage rock, 1960's-sounding fuzztone--rather than "distortion" or "overdrive"--is a big deal for me. I have a number of great vintage and contemporary pedals (Maestro Fuzz-Tone, Mosrite Fuzzrite, Big Muff, Roland Double Beat, ZVex Fuzz Factory). Can I run my guitar through one of those pedals into the D.I. input of my Mbox 2 and into Amplitube 2 as if I was running through the pedal into a real amp?

2. Can Amplitube 2 be used with Izotope Trash, which has more specifically fuzz distortion options? Anyone used the two of them together? How did it work?

3. Anyone know if any of the Amplitube 2 amp options are analogous to a Hi-Watt head like Pete Townshend used?

Thanks for any input.

My set-up: iMac G5, 1.8 mHz, 1G RAM, Mbox 2, Pro Tools LE, Mac OS X 10.4.8

The short answers to (1) and (2) are both yes.

The "how" of (1) depends on the system, but I'd guess you'd do it the same way as recording the guitar direct without the pedal. Instead of Guitar -> Mbox -> Amplitube in Protools, you'd just add the pedal before the Mbox. I don't use PT, but there's no reason it shouldn't be able to use either the guitar direct sound or the pedal's output.

(2) is easy enough to test - just put one after the other in your FX chain. Trash would probably go first, but depending on your Amplitube setup you might want to try both. You don't have the internal flexibility of something like Guitar Rig (where you can place the distortion anywhere you want along the signal path), since it can only go before all of Amplitube or after all of Amplitube, but it should work as far as sound goes.

Thanks for the response. I am curious if anyone has tried using a real pedal into Mbox 2 (or other interface) and from there into Amplitube (on a clean amp sound) and whether the result was comparable to a guitar through a pedal into a real amp. I do assume it could work in theory but just wonder if anyone can say from experience that it works in practice.

(Or, if anyone from IK Multimedia is monitoring these forums, if they have an answer.)

Thanks again.

Yup, I have had good results with pedals into DI and then hit an amp sim. I also like to run pedals into an amp, take a line out, and then hit an amp sim set for just the cab simulation.

Thanks Glynn.

Anyone out there have experience using Amplitube 2 and Izotope's Trash together?

Anyone who have Amplitube know whether any of the amps/pre-amps are comparable to HiWatt heads?

Thanks.
