Need PA Advice...

just wondering does anyone know a thing or two about PA's. I sing in a band and we need a PA as the last one we were using wasn't ours. We rehearse in a small enough room with drums, 2 guitars and bass. Think the Strokes or the Walkmen...or BRMC something along those lines. We just need the PA for 1 or 2 vocal mics max, never be gigging with it or anything as most of the places we play have their own house PA.

What kind of wattage should we be thinking? I found this set on an internet store we buy most of our gear from:

SUPERLUX SP108 - Thomann Irish Cyberstore

Its 300 watt (2 x 150). Its basically an exact copy of the Yamaha Stagepas 300 set. Dont let the name Superlux through you off as i have a 20 quid pair of studio headphones from them and they sound pretty decent. It also comes with a 3 year warranty just incase. It comes with 8" speakers but It has floor monitor extension ports so could I even get a powered speaker if the volume isn't in my ears enough...like this 120watt active monitor?:

THE BOX MA120 MK II - Thomann Irish Cyberstore

I'n not really too sure though so I need some help....would this setup be loud enough for this kind of application? Keep in mind our budget isnt very high. Thanks in advance.

I would go for two of those boxes, works out to the same money and then you'd need a little 6 or 8 channel mixer with reverb like a yamaha for $80 or something similar.
Those have 12" speakers wich would be much better than the first choice 8" for a vocal PA and you could use them for stage monitors when you play.

Of course, you could forget the mixer and plug one mic in each but that would be less than ideal and no effects.

thanks for the reply man. only problem is its kind of essential that the rest of the band can hear me too....so really I'd need 2 room speakers and then maybe a monitor for myself? do you think the 8" speakers will be too small for the band to hear then?

I just think in that price range and that wattage, the 8"speakers would be prone to feedback issues when trying to achive jamming volume.
We jam here in a 20x24 room and i don't need a personal monitor to hear my vocals. We use 2 powered monitors with 15's but i used to have yorkville monitors with 12's and it worked pretty good.
If you had 2 of those MA 120's and put them up on tables or whatever, the whole band including you would hear the vocals.IMO
