Any Gibson Les Paul experts?

Can anybody tell me anything about an odd Les Paul Studio?

The serial number comes up with a date just before the lists say that they started making the studios, and it's all Maple, which it says was never made. This info from the links at Gibson's site. Seems to be a strange one. Anybody know anything?

Don't trust the serial # guides. It could easily be from the 70's despite an 'old' SN.
Maybe it's a Norlin, they made some maple versions.
Have you got any pics?

Weird. I just recently ran across another odd Studio that's not listed in the usual sources.. bound body and neck, dot inlays, gold hardware, custom shop logo.. and Roland synth electronics w/ pickup. Looks just like this one, only stock:

Close to a Studio Standard, but not quite. CSR at Gibson told me the official designation is "Les Paul Studio Synthesizer," but couldn't give me any info beyond that.

At any rate, it seems that "unlisted" LP's may not be that uncommon?

What's with the top of your Studio?

First Studio's was with maple neck and top, according to 70's specifications Standarts, but without edging on the side of body.

Gibson did make an all maple LP back in 94 or so. I'll find the specifics when I get home. I don't recall it being in the Studio line though.

Gibson Les Paul Forum

I'm sure somebody there can tell you what the guy who made it had for lunch that day...
