Bogner Ecstacy 101b amp guys.

Anyone own or use this amp? I tried it at a store this past week and it sounded great but sometimes it's hard to tell in a store.

The most versatile "dirty" amp I own. The Plexi setting is perfect for when you wanna clean up during verses with the volume knob then open it up during the choruses. Like Paul Koskoff on "All Right Now".

The blue channel gives me the "Blackberry" sound (B.C. : Three Snakes and a Charm).

The red channel does Queensryche: Operation Mindcrime (1988) to a Tee! The lead boost is fantastic on both.

The clean is very clean. You can dirty it up, but it doesnt sound as good as the plexi. It doesnt have that bounce you will get for a class-A amp. I think the Dr. Z Rx ES is the best clean sound I have ever heard out of an amp. The GT soul-o-75 anit to shabby either in class-A.

Unlesss your PUP's are real high output, the XTC may not give you that Black album chunk unless you dig in like a motherf*cker. Its more Van Halen than Metallica. But 10 times the definition than you will get from a new 'rectumfier'. I had a Triaxis and a 2:90 that was balls out chunk. The old dual Rectos were pretty nice to, but thats all they did for me. Balls out "chuggin on the E." But they did it well.

Play a real complex chord on the Bog with high gain, then do it on a Triple recto....
The top end will tear your head off while you are trying to disern what the hell you just played. If you are just doing root-5 stuff and want all that gain get a Mesa or a Diezel if you can afford one. I just happen to dig the Bogner more.

Hope that helps guy.

if you have already a rectifier, the xtc will compliment this wonderfully when you do bi-amping for riffs.
for lead work the xtc is the mos versatile amp i know. the biggest problem with the bogner is that you need an exelent player and guitar, becouse the xtc is a bitch when it comes to sloppy playing.

I grabbed it today. Ecstacy 101b and a Boogie 4X12 Recto cab. I played it for about an hour at the studio, it sounds really nice. It has a marshall on steroids vibe!

James,

I assume this means you preferred it to the Diezel Herbert?

Care to share why?

The Herbert was killer it just sounded to metal for my music.

I'm not sure to be honest, I love heavy guitars. Maybe I'll get a Herbert too and be a real slut.

Congrats on the Bogner purchase James. I picked up a Shiva about a month ago and I am loving the sounds that I am getting from it. Be sure to check out the Bogner User's Group on Yahoo:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Bognerusersgroup/

I was getting some good sounds from my Shiva, but, after reading through the threads over there, I was able to try out some seemingly "non-standard" settings and really dial it in. IMHO, there is no need to reinvent the wheel, so I really enjoyed benefiting from the expertise of others as far as getting great tone.
