Question advice adjusting kinman strat pups

Hi,

I've recently decided to give my 80's jap squire strat (SQ, 70's style) some TLC and bought a set of kinman 'woodstock plus' pups. I've got an extra switch so i can put the bridge in series - sounds good with the neck pup !.

anyhow, I'm having trouble setting the pup height to my liking, especially with the bass end, the low E will get stratitis (ie be too close to the pole pieces) on the neck pup at about the 12 fret. I've tried to set the guitar up to fender specs using a feeler gauge between the frets and underneath of the strings.

the neck is a 71/4" radius - is this the main cause of the problem I'm having with the low e string ?

should i be trying to set the bridge saddle as low as possible to try and reduce the angle and hence the height change when i fret a note past the 12th fret ?

if set the pup height lower on the bass side of the neck pup, it sounds too thin to me when i play lower down the fretboard.

The pups are an improvement of the the stock fender ones - punchier and much much quieter !

cheers,

Gareth.

I'll have to read that stuff again.

I do have a feeling that because these are low gauss pups, the action of the guitar is more critical.

I'm going to try and change the action of the two lowest strings again and see if i can reduce the change in height between 1st and 12th frets, but this is tricky with such a small radius board.
