Roger Water's Bass

I read somewhere that he uses an ashedown amp. I've also seen pictures of him playing with a Fender, but after I learned the Zeppelin never used a Gibson for recording, I don't buy the hype.

Anybody know what bass guitar and rig Waters used to record with?

first off, ask Terry Manning if Led Zep used a Telecaster... I believe Page did.. a LOT.

but leaving this aside... when I recorded Roger he used his old 60's Precision.

But this by no means means that's ALL he ever used.

but I got the impression that this was his main favourite bass guitar.

Is that the black one?

Re Pagey and Teles... Its well-documented that he DID, but depends on which album I guess...

The thinner "single-coil" sound he got from LPs is very different to the thin sounds I hear on albums

I mean, he also used a Lake Placid Blue Strat on Prescence

yes! the black P

my understanding, fwiw, is that almost all of at least the first 3 Led Zep's were the Telecaster.

I've heard this from multiple people including Jimmy Page.
Which is not to say that memory can't 'vary' on such things (I've certainly seen that) but I tend to think this one is well corroborated.

Oops! I don't know why on earth I typed Telecaster, I meant Gibson. There's no advertising with Page using a tele.

Doh!

Throughout the 70's it was mostly the 200w Hiwatts of the era. The DR201's I think. Probably through WEM cabinets... and a 60's black Fender p bass with maple neck most of the time.

I think they were DR103 100 watt Hiwatts, not the 200's.
