Diezel Herbert

I played one of these badboys today. I'm not always a fan of the super high gain amps like Bogner, Diezel, Engl etc.. But this thing had some serious mojo and tone. Anyone own one? What's it like?

I'm looking for a new amp and the Engl and Diezel are on my list to check out as well. Haven't heard them yet though...

I did try a Two Rock here in Miami a few days ago and it was SWWWEEET ! But at 6k, it requires a second mortgage.

I'm looking for a good clean tone and some vibe for OD as well. I just don't want to give up buying more gear that I still need for another amp. My limit is about 2k and I don't really need more than 30w since it will be mostly studio work.

So...like James, I'd like to hear more about the above amps, bring it on...

yeah, the herbert is a monster of an amp.

we A/B with a Recto (old series), Laboga Mr. Hector and a peavey... also a self built Soldano-head (streetprice 3500$) was in there.

the laboga, herbert and the soldano where in the same row. the soldano sounded in this situation (testmix with a drum) best to our ears, Laboga Hectora was a bit behind. The herbert had it's own tone, witch didnt fit in our idea what a guitartone should sound like in our testmix..

Diezels are nice:D

Given your specs, I don't think a Diezel is going to fit the bill. Dont get me wrong, I have a VH4 and fall in love again every time I crank it up. However, I believe the Einstein 50 watter is the lowest power they offer and I think it might be just above 2 grand.

However, if you have any questions about Diezels. There is a Diezel Amplification forum over at http://www.rig-talk.com where Peter Diezel himself is very active and will answer any questions you might have.

(Good luck with the waiting list if you decide on Diezel though )

Thanks for that, good info there...

Actually since then, I'm starting to change my mind set.

I've been using my Twin and it's done me good, but lately I'm getting a little tired of the sound. I'm recording 2 sm57's or sometimes an AT4050 thru the GR MP-2NV to Rosetta and it actually sounds too warm.

I'd like to get an amp that has an extra clean channel. I mean, really clean and clear because once it goes thru the GR and Rosetta it's gonna warm up plenty. I'm hearing too much mud (low mids) and not enough clarity.

I will try thru the 737's and see what happens but I want to go with something clear in the way of amps. I can always add OD or Distortion later...

Diezels are kinda the new "standard"...or were at least....... for boutique high gain amps. Popularized a lot by Adam Jones of Tool and James Hetfield. Don't get me wrong. They are absolutely NOT pigeonholed into that category. VH4 is a 4 channel switcher. Ch1 being compared to a cross between fender cleans and hiwatt cleans with will overdrive just a bit when the gain is cranked. While I dont have tons of clean channel experience, I think the cleans on Diezels are really beautiful. Channel two is the Marshall channel. Dynamic. GREAT for pedals. Ch 3 is the Diezel signature crunch. Very high gain with great clarity and huge sounding chords. Ch. 4 even higher gain for liquid leads. Herbert is supposed to be close to the VH4, but with more sag, slightly better bottom end(like 160 watts or something like that) and a little less stiff and hi-fi than the VH4. Supposedly just a matter of taste between those two.

However, the Einstein is a little different. While I havent heard it, its supposed to be geared more for a vintage tone lover. So, after everything is said and done. If you are simply looking for a clean amp, overkill is an understatement I think when buying a Diezel. But, if you have a chance to try them out....I would recommend it.

My favorite channel on Herbert is channel 1. Amazing cleans that this amp delivers you won't find anywhere else.

It's not like Ch2 or Ch3 are not top notch, you know

Get a Herbert & a Bogner XTC & you'll be covered for whatever!

+1

Given the extreme high gain, there is amazing clarity of every note and every chord in every register in that song. Out of my price range, but a very impressive amp.

It may be a little too "modern" sounding for me.

Trust me, you won't get a hold of Herbert just listening to some clips, you have no clue what variety of sounds you can get out of it. Go to Diezel website you can listen to some clips there, later check Diezel forum for more.

I did that right after posting and the Herbert is impressive even from the handful of clips. The overall tone is less "modern, perfect clarity, tight and stiff" than the VH4 from what i can tell. I prefer the slightly looser, more classic rock vibe of the 'bert. But, I've got no way to afford it. lol

2-3k tops here.

I used to say the same until the day I played one

My credit card was out of my wallet before I even knew it. Still paying it off

BTW you can get one used for a little over 3K, so you are not that far.

It's mental sickness when cranked with a good band.

Has anyone come across the schematics of this beast? I've been thinking about building one instead of buying.
