Christ. I hope those people get caught. That's just too many hot guitars to NOT get caught.

That's like robbing a bank of guitars! I'm GUESSING that a job like that... that someone paid the guy(s) to steal them for a single buyer that wanted them.

Sick, sad world sometimes man. I just dont know how thieves could live with that on their conscious. It's like what goes around, comes around. There's no way you can live your life in peace after you've pulled off some bogus stunt like that! Justice will be served one way or another. Believe that! I had to get that off my chest. I feel for the owner(s). Peace.

Paul-

wow. either the surveillance system sucked or must have been some clever wise guy crew that figured out how to bypass secuity. the local sheriff and deputies are gonna have fun scouring the pawn shops, assuming of course that the have pawn shops in italy. these won't get far if sold locally, as the italian carbineri are a pretty tough bunch, unless of course these are shunted to eastern europe or to africa or asia then all bets are off. if the latter is the case, hope you were insured by lloyds of london.

i also recommend you also contact the following us/international federal cyber crime unit and file a complaint on line with all losses makes/models and serial numbers. i have use the service before and they are very very good -- connected to interpol etc. just in case these find their way to the usa. also contact interpol directly.

http://complaint.ic3.gov

[The IC3's mission is to serve as a vehicle to receive, develop, and refer criminal complaints regarding the rapidly expanding arena of cyber crime. The IC3 aims to give the victims of cyber crime a convenient and easy-to-use reporting mechanism.

Complaint Status
The IC3 receives thousands of complaints each month and does not have the resources to respond to inquiries regarding the status of complaints. It is the IC3's intention to review all complaints and refer them to law enforcement and regulatory agencies having jurisdiction. Ultimately, investigation and prosecution are at the discretion of the receiving agencies.

Evidence
It is important that you maintain any evidence you may have relating to your complaint. Evidence may include canceled checks, credit card receipts, phone bills, mailing envelopes, mail receipts, a printed copy of a website, copies of emails, or similar items. Please keep the items in a safe location, in case you are requested to provide them for investigative purposes.

oh man. that stuff is worth more than any monetary value you could ever place on it.

as long as he filed a police report they'll help him find it, providing it wasn't the police that stole the guitars. certainly there was insurance on the instruments. if not, then that's bad.

barring the owner being involved in a fake heist, there's going to be news about this to follow. something like this just doesn't happen without someone screwing up somewhere along the line.

was this a well documented story, or is it just something that someone sent you in an email? i never heard about it. i deal in guitars and pro audio. no mention of it, ever.

If they come back, I'd be interested in the 70 strat.

I've only had one stolen, outright. Whew.

Man, I really really hope that this place had some serious insurance, how so many guitars can get nicked is, well I honestly don't even know how they orchestrated making off with so many of them. It had to be planned, and planned well. Insider likesay.

Anyhow, I guess checking sites like eBay or other auction sites would be as good a start as any with hopes that after such a well devised robbery the thieves are stupid enough to try to sell these guitar on the mass market!

No news as far as I'm concerned...
Security has been beefed up @ the stores I usually visit (those who have the sluttiest schtuff, that is).

Problm w/ insurance coverage is that the insureance Co. will try every rule in the book to avoid paying the claim such as asking for all the original invoices... main hassle in Italy, where everybody tries very hard to settle everything under the radar.... ahem.

You get the idea....

fuuck
so you're suggesting there's no possibility of organized crime involvement? are you suggesting that it was some one-off amateur job(which could be possible)? are you also saying that these people, who so successfully pulled off such a heist, are dense enough to sell these items on "eBay or similar"? that's pretty naive thinking. especially from someone who presumes to advise me to "grow up."
now, i realize that they could've sold one of these instruments to someone who might then put it up for sale on eBay, but it seems unlikely to me. people who buy items of questionable legality are usually aware of the nature of their purchase. perhaps after changing hands a few times, a couple of these items might end up at a pawn shop or on e-bay, but by then, the original theives have long since faded into the background.
mafia involvement does not seem out of the question to me(they apparently still run rampant in italy), unless you believe that they don't exist. maybe they're just an old wives' tale used to frighten children. to this humble observer(myself), skepticism for skepticism's sake is just as ridiculous as believing for believing's sake. i think people resort to dogmatic skepticism as a clumsy attempt to appear more intelligent than they are. (perhaps this very post is a clumsy attempt for me to appear more intelligent that i am. i never said i was perfect LOL)
the theory in my original post was simply one of many possible explanations for this crime. in no way, was i preaching it as fact. it was actually more of a joke... an excuse to use the term "fuggetaboutit."
i'm gonna go and grow up now. perhaps with a bit of luck and lots of study, i'll grow up to be as wise as the venerable Chrizcol

If you want to learn about the new mafia: Beppe Grillo will told you everything you want to know

This robbery has possibly been comissioned by someone with a lot of money and very little ethics. Take notice that booth things seem to live together very happily!!!

lol...this thing probably shouldn't be a sticky. The '78 Jazz Bass up there belonged to my bass player 15 years ago; it was stolen out of the back of a club in Nacogdoches, Texas when we were gigging in college, and I HIGHLY doubt the thing ever ended up in Italy.

More likely, somebody has scoured the internet for stolen instruments (my bass player posted his information several places throughout the years on the net) in the hopes that one of them will turn up and a good Samaritan will "return" the stolen instrument to its "rightful" owner.

It's just a guess, but I can't find any news stories relating to that theft. I think it's a crock.

I agree. It very well could have been a list of all the missing instruments. That's a lot of merchandise to move overnight. You can't exactly throw a strat in your pocket now can you?

The sad fact is - over 1 million music instruments are stolen every year in the US and less than 2% are recovered and returned to the owner. I've been posting stolen instrument notices since Sept. 07 - since then we have helped recover over $100,000 in stolen gear - not that I found any of it - rather its been other musicians seeing my posts and seeing the stolen gear being sold somewhere. Please take a look at the list of stolen instruments on any of these sites:
SCREAMING STONE - STOLEN MUSIC INSTRUMENT LIST - BEFORE YOU BUY USED MAKE SURE IT'S NOT STOLEN!! (the main site)
Harmony Central Harmony Central Musician Community Forums

Guitar Trade: Guitar Forum • Index page
Ultimate Guitar UG Community @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com - powered by vBulletin
Guitar Forum: .:Guitar Forum:.
Myspace.com/screamingstone (I post bulletins and blogs)

I'd like to also start posting the stolen instrument notices on this site, however I have not heard back from the admins.

Spread the word - the more people seeing the stolen instrument notices the better chance we have at getting the stolen gear back into the hands of the musicians.

Oh my god! What a fort knox of guitars has been looted!

Although this has happened some ago, reading that makes me feel almost as sad when the Sonic Youth's truck with majority of their instruments was stolen.

is there something wrong in me if I find news like this more shocking than your average daily war/violence news?
