rivera - knucklehead with mesa boogie box or rivera combo, are the two most versatile amps for a studio( for me). I usually dont need nothing else, they cover all my needs, sometimes i borrow fender twin reverb ...... |

Here are my 5 personal favorites in my home studio : - Victoria Double Deluxe - Carr Rambler - Germino LoVo 55 - Vox AC30 - Fuchs ODS30 and not to forget the little Fender Tweed Champ ; it's so tiny it can barely count as one full amp I think they cover most of my needs (I've got some other amps too). |

1959 Tweed Fender Bassman 4x10 Hiwatt DR103 Custom 100 60's Vox AC30 TB Mesa Triple Rectifier Marshall Plexi with that you can do ANYTHING. I'm tempted to replace the Plexi (which is close to the Bassman anyway) with something older and perhaps smaller (like a Supro ) but it's not a need I find I often have.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by all the common tastes in "ya gotta have" amps. Tried & true... Marshall JMP 50 Plexi (got that covered) Vox AC-30 (got that covered) Fender Deluxe, blackface (got that covered) I also like and own: Vox AC-15 (I prefer the tremelo circuit to those on Fenders) Dr Z Maz 18 Jr (thanks for the tip, Chap!) - like a cross between a tweed Deluxe and an AC-15 I wish I had an old Twin...I love the tone Keef gets out of his!

I'm a little surprised to see so much love for the Rivera Knucklehead. But it really is such a wonderful amp. Especially the "clean channel," which breaks up so nicely that I rarely switch to the high gain channel. AC30 Mesa Mark iv combo Rivera Knucklehead 55 Fender Deluxe Ampeg B15-R -Jp |

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the 65 amps yet. I played one briefly the other day and it floored me. One side has that kind of elusive 'brown' marshally sound and the other side is kind of like a more modern voxy thing. The amp is incredibly responsive- just digging in a little harder drives the amp more in a great way. I have to spend some more time with it and figure out what to sell to get one but I definitely will get one. Oh yeah, I don't work for, or even know the people at 65- I just got really psyched playing through this thing and when I saw this thread I had to throw in my 2 cents. |
