I see the same plastic ones everywhere (what are those called?) and I think one of those will do me fine - (the original 72 case falls open and is too flimsy.. I will keep it though..)

Thanks in advance!

SKB are probably the most common make... they make the big hard moulded "plastic" ones (which are pretty tough) as well as soft-sided cases (which are quite a bit cheaper, but might do you just fine, they're still reinforced - just won't be quite as tough).

TRIC makes neat cases too - they seem lighter when a guitar is actually in them - a bit bulky though - but as they're owned by Godin I'm not 100% sure on their availability for third-party makes... you'd need to ask dealers...

I like the TKL cases for non air travel transportation. The SBKs are very good - but the process used to manufacture them is destructive to the environment. Just my 2 cents.

The type I thought I wanted sort of looks grey black and has no protruding clips, the clips it does have are sort of like a storm troopers armour. It almost seems like one solid thing.. & looks like it could float in water!

What the hell is it I am talking about?

They look very road proof

Know what I mean?

I had one of those when they first came out, and it broke, i don't remember why, Since then I've had the second version of the "protector" which has lasted it's got to be 30 years.

I have two Gator cases and I like them better than the SKBs.

Wasn't the original Gibson Protector case a silver metal thing made by Zero Haliburton? Always thought those were cool looking...but perhaps a bit impractical.

I've got my vintage pauls in 70s protector cases. They're hell for strong, plastic is 2-3 times as thick as SKB. The latches, however, were badly thought out. Replace them with modern latches or velcro closures and you're golden!
