Thread Starter | Octaswitch or something similar
Im looking for something like an Octaswitch .... A way to organize effect pedals and control the switching from one unit? I'm fairly low budget and have no experience with pedal switches like the octaswitch so any recommendations appreciated! Thank you

I have the conbinator II also from Carl Martin, and is the sh%T. No Noise easy to use, the programs are so simple to get done, the sound is pure, but some times you need a buffer for some pedals, but the thing works amazing. The octaswitch is similar but with out the powersupply and other things. But if you are in a budget, try the Moen GEC-9, you won´t be disapointed. | |

I have a Voodoo Labs Pedal Switcher. It works good, doesn't suck tone. I bought it because at the time similarly price switchers didn't get good reviews. The Carl Martin stuff got hammered as bad sounding. They might be better now. DaveT |

The Carl Martin Octa has been improved that I have seen recently. I've been looking at these for some time. They have added a bypass as well. Seems like a good unit. Very versatile than most units I have seen. I had the smaller Voodoo Lab 4 switcher which was OK but it runs like $200, the CM is only like $400 for 8 loops and more select control. Not a bad deal. Hard to imagine they sound bad. It's powered, has a good buffer circuit complex and gold contacts. Maybe the person was using the bypass mode and getting some loading effect, hard to say. Most are probably like me in all my years of playing just having gotten hip to the issue of true bypass and buffer pedals in recent years. Best thing I ever did to my chain was put a high end Radial PB1 front of chain which is a quality buffer circuit. Removes all the loading after it, even true bypass. I have not gone to a CM unit yet as my current rig is dead quiet and I have a proper sandwich of high end buffers on each end of a true bypass chain. The CM for me might offer some switching options but seems to be a matter of selecting 1-8 in series having to maintain an essential order. That really does not afford me any great benefit. If you have a collage of odd buffer pedals and what not the CM would help get them out of line and remove the loading. But a true MIDI control system would be the best, but serious bucks. |
