Thread Starter | Guitar setup (easycore, punk), which pedals?
Heres a request for help on what I should get next... I guess... I play in this band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qvB9vHC7NE ...recently the bands been moving towards the direction of... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN7h5fRBPm4 Here are my past guitar rigs... still have the gear too... ... and a halfstack v30 cabinet! 1st guitar setup (band before the one now) > Ibanez Prestige RG > Marshall TSL-100 (straight) 2nd guitar setup > Ibanez Prestige RG > Sansamp GT-2 > Marshall > FX Loop w/ Boss EQ7 ---- Ive recently realised that the GT-2 has a damn swish sound, but as its an amp AND cab/mic sim, a lot of the punch is lost in the mix with my band... The past week Ive got a new amp (Bugera 6262) with an overdrive pedal (Danelectro FAB - both REAAALLY cheap!!) Bugera 6262 is pretty much a carbon copy of the Peavey 5150.2 / 6565+ Bugera 6262 vs. Peavey 5150 II - Metal shootout - YouTube ... Checking online Ive found that to get the overdriven amp under control, a noise gate pedal would be needed.. but Id like to see if anyone on this board can give some info or advise me on this... Ive found that the MXR Noise Gate and the ISP Decimator are supposed to be neat-oh! ... or should I just screw it and get a Behringer pedal? Should be fun ehaaaaea! So, current setup (will try it in the studio this Sunday / Tuesday) Ibanez RG > Overdrive > Bugera 6262 > FX Loop Boss EQ7 (is this even needed!?) Any feedback would be grand, Thanks Tim |

If you're having noise issues, I feel bad for you son. I've got 99 probl- Sorry, getting sidetracked. Noise gates aren't something I recommend really, unless you've set your gain stupidly high or your rig is noisey - noisey PSU/FX unit, bad shielding/cabling or bad pickup wiring. My main suggestions are gainstage properly and be quick on your feet. Avoid adding treble after adding gain (A la my Big Muff w/ Tone Wicker, which sounds awesome but easily doubles the loudness of noise with the Tone Wicker engaged) and avoid OVER-distorting things to mask playing. You'll actually be surprised how much you can pull back on the distortion in alot of situations - I only ever jam the gain even close to 10 for insta-feedback sounds. But I wouldn't even worry about this stuff until you hear it. If it's noisey, fix it. If it's not, don't worry.

My 6505+ let's out a pretty nasty hiss part of the reason that it does this is because of the 6 12ax7s in the back some amps hiss naturally due to such high gain too. Sorry if it doesn't help

I don't think you'll need that EQ. Try without it first. If you only use one overdrive pedal, maybe the noise gate is not important... |
