Thread Starter | Using Vandal along with analog miked amps
I just wanted some opinions. I just got the Vandal Plugin and I'm using it with Samplitude version 10. I guess this is a general question about mixing amp sims with real analog guitars miked through an amp. I know many don't do amp simulators anyway and insist on live guitars, but the reviews on Vandal are so good that perhaps you can get better results with just using different settings in Vandal. And should I throw away my pod and my Vox Tonelab or do they (I like the Tonelab better) have sounds that Vandal just cannot get. I know a lot of this is just experimenting on my own, and I have. Sometimes when I record with an amp I think I should use one of the sims and visa versa. I go from clean jangly sounds to powerchords and heavy fuzz leads to clean bright crisp R&B Steve Cropper type licks as well as REM type folkrock and Byrds/Beatles sounds. I'm really not trying to get traffic to my web site but if anyone would like to hear the kinds of guitar sounds I need they can hear my music at Songheads The songs on the left "Sunrise Highway" are more PoP and ones on the right "Jerry Rio" are heavier, more garage, punk and new wave. With so many choices I would like to use the best guitar sound that suits the needs of that song. (doesn't everyone). I know this question has been asked a million times already...Tonelab VS PoD VS Guitar Rig VS Amplitube VS...analog recording electric guitars, but this is before Vandal. I don't expect Vandal to be the ultimate answer beacuase I know there really is no one answer.....HOWEVER Seeing what other people who use a lot of guitars in their recording will help me get better results without endless testing (which I've already done), but I always think...."if I did it this way it could be better". For amps I have a Fender blues deluxe reissue (and a hotplate power attenuator since I live in an apartment) and a vox pathfinder 15R, which is a cheap non tube amp but sounds and records amazingly good, I guess the Vandal AC30 sound would be better, right?(better than the Tonelab's AC30,which I think is good, but doesn't blow me away). As you can hear, sometimes I use lots of layers of guitar, including acoustic guitar. I also have many fuzzboxes and fulltone overdrive pedals. Love those! I will post what I find to be the best to help you all back. I know these discussions have gone on forever, but this kind of sharing information is very helpful. And Vandal is relatively new. Thanks |
