Which Tube-Amp for Guitar (LOW wattage) for home recording? Heavy Metal inside!

Hi to all!

I'm in doubt to which amp buy.... I'm looking for a LOW wattage tube amps (from 5 to 15/20 watt) because I will use it at home!
I will use it to record heavy metal with a shure sm57 and a 2x12 cabinet with V30. My budget is 300/450 Euros.

I see this amps:

- blakstar ht5R (320 euros)
- orange dark terror (450 euros)
- Hughes & ketter tubemeister 5watt, 1 channel (350 euros)
- Hughes & ketter tubemeister 18watt, 2 channel (500 euros)
- Engl Gigmaster 15 (500 euros).
- others (which ones?)

500 euros is over budget for me but I don't know if it is necessary for my homestudio. Blackstar is very cheap and it seems sounds good with a tubescreamer. Also orange sounds good but maybe it isn't indicate to play heavy metal? I never seen orange amps in studios

Any suggestions? Sorry for my english

Thanks!!

I know a guy who plays lead in a blackened death metal band that uses a Tiny Terror through a Marshall 4x12. It's a pretty awesome sound. Check it out here! The Dark Terror might fit your sound a bit better, but at least this will give you an idea of an Orange amp playing metal.

Bon Chance!

Orange is cool. Interested to try the ENGL myself.
Don't discount the Jet City JCA20 aswell, nice thick sound on that amp.

The only miniamp that stood out for me was the mesa mini rectifier... I don't know how much it goes in Europe , but here in Québec, Canada, it goes for about 1000 dollars.

But Damn does it sounds ballsy.

+1 Orange Tiny Terror. The original version is almost too much gain for me but any of them through a 2x12 will sound ungodly heavy. I never take it off the 7 watt setting.

You might be able to find the Orange TH30H for that, at least in Europe. It's 30w but has a 1/2 power mode and can run on 2 tubes for about 10w. It has MORE than enough gain for metal, as well as a nice warm clean sound.

I think the Blackstar HT5 is excellent, and my HT-1 sounds great with a TS9 clone and a Boss SD-1 in front of it.

If you can't try the amps out first - then I would go with either the Orange Terror or the Blackstar. Both have great tweakable tone.

As for your english...no worries there...you should read my Swedish!<G>

I see your location is Rome... how about ordering from Thomann, try at home (if possible to shoot in the finances for just a week or so you can even try them all at once), and then make use of the 30 days money back warranty, until you found the one you like? They have pretty much all of those you listed in stock.

This is an easy one. The blackstar ht5 is your best buy for the stile you want to record. If you can crank it a bit you can get very nice sounds out of it. Just got a bit disappointed with the lack of headroom of the clean channel. With the right stomp box you can overcome this though. Peace!

I got my eye on a regular VHT Special 6 for 6v6 tones , the Ultra may be what you are looking for ,for higher gain.
