Thread Starter | Any ideas on how to get this sweet guitar tone? Tony Toni Tone Anniversary - YouTube Skip to 2:20 What guitar? Strat? What pickups? Is it a sound achieved by studio treatment/EQing etc or could that tone be achieved with just guitar and amp? All help is much appreciated. Rock on. |

i have absolutely no idea. if i had to take a complete flying stab at it i'd say late 70's solidbody jazz setup. Not the george benson type of hollowbody sound, but closer to elevator jazz. I'm thinking Ibanez ST300 hard ash / walnut - nice wood and you hear it. Bridge pickup, nice and glassy sound (humbuckers). Amp - i'm not sure but i would look as to what the jazz guys used back then. Probably for ease of accessibility right now I'd try a roland JC120 without the chorus (or just a slight touch) and how close that would be before rethinking my shot in the dark guess. |

Dude, really, I think you could dial that sound with a Tele or Strat, neck position, tone rolled off a bit, some compression, DI. Give it a shot.
