Opinion on agile guitars.

I was thinking about buying A les pauly guitar from this brand. Has anybody had experience with one before and what did you think?

I got the 12-string Paul and it is really nice. Very high quality.

I don't have the LP type, but I have an AS-1000, the 335'ish one, and it's a good quality guitar. For the price it's very good quality. The finish is flawless and the neck and frets seem to be spot on. I had no trouble getting perfect intonation. I don't have any experience with other 335 style guitars, so I can't place it relative to anything else.

It took me a while to get a grip on how to play it for good tone, having been a purely Strat guy for a long time. So at first I thought the tone wasn't very good, but it was mostly because I was using Strat playing strategies that weren't appropriate for this style of guitar.

I own 3 Agile guitars a Valkyrie, A Cool Cat and a pre lawsuit AS820 amongst a collection of around 20, including a 1969 Les Paul Custom, they are nice instruments, I have 2 clients who have bought Agile Les Pauls, and they both love them. My recommendation, is the change the pickups, but I do that with EVERY guitar I buy.

Had an SX tele, which is made in the same factory but to a lower price point. Played a few of my friends' agiles.

They are, IMO some of the best deals on the market. They have designs and ideas that rival only whatever is coming out of the custom shops of Fender and Gibson (note I said designs, not quality ).

Needless to say; for the price and sheer # of models it couldn't hurt to peruse a little until something tickles your fancy.

Also, rondomusic most definitely charges a very nominal price - as in, these are prices I expect Chinese instruments to be made and sold @; if only that can be said for the a lot of the overpriced budget options at the big box stores.

If I could do it all over again and buy another 'first electric' or 'first electric bass' I'd save the green and get an Agile.

If I remember right, the Agiles are made in Korea

That's correct. The cheaper SX and Douglas are MIC.

I had an Agile Valkyrie (SG) w/P-90's. I preferred it to an Epi SG (G400), also MIK, that I had, with humbuckers. I sold the Epi SG and kept the Agile for quite awhile. However, I had 2 other P-90 slab mahogany guitars, plus one chambered/semi-hollow P-90 axe, so I sold the Agile to an old friend. Sfaik he's had no probs and likes it fine.

When I had it I gigged it dead stock.

Yeah, stock was just fine on the 12-string as well.

I have the same guitar with Fralin P90's, I also put Klusons on because the balance of the guitar was off with the Grovers

I've got an AL 3100 and it's really an excellent guitar. I did change the PUPS on mine but that was out of preference, the stock ones sounded very good. Intonation, fit & finish are great and it's very resonant acoustically. I've got mine set up as well as my Parker Fly Mojo and it plays just as easily, if differently. That says alot about the Agile. Suffice to say my Gibson GAS has been seriously, if not totally, abated at this point.

If you pick up one of the LP'ish models don't get anything less than an AL3XXX series, the overall quality begins to drop off from there down the line. I have been eyeballing the AL 3200 models lately which are neck thru with a heel cut out for upper fret access.

Here's a pic of mine,

I have one of their semi-hollow HARM models with mini humbuckers. It was quasi-custom in that I was able to specify several features including the finish and wide neck. I waited about 5 months for delivery and wound up with a really great guitar. It was playable out of the box and after a pro set up it's even better. The guitar tech was even blown away by it. Rondo is doing orders for quasi-custom guitars on their website right now. I don't need another guitar or I'd order an AL-3200.

I must admit, for the last few years, I thought of buying one of their 12 string "les pauls" but I never heard any review of them. How does it compare in quality, especially the feel of the neck, to a Gibson?

They've built some great guitars and some not so great ones. For a brand like that I'd definitely buy from a dealer that has a liveral return policy, or make sure I played it first. I had one of their midline Les Pauls that was just "meh". Nothing wrong with it, but it just didn't rock my world like some other guitars at the same price point. The other thing I'd think about is the Gibson Studio LPs. I've often found them in the $500-600 range and they'll hold their value better.

I have an Agile AB3500 baritone that I picked up used.. the original owner had changed out the pickups for Duncan blackouts.

The guitar is fantastic.. fit/finish are about on par with an Ibanez, Schecter, etc. I'd buy another one in a second.

At the risk of quoting myself... I bought another one. They just got in a bunch of LP-style baritones.. I couldn't resist.
