Looking to convert my 2001 Fender American Texas Special Fat Strat to a regular SSS model. From what I understand The Neck and Middle pickups are Texas Specials, so all I need is a pickup and pick guard? Anyone have a part number or best place to buy: (1) Fender SSS White Mother of Pearl Pickguard (1) Texas Special Single Coil Bridge Position Pickup Hoping one of you Fender experts can help me out, so I can order the right stuff. |

You should be fine ordering that. Any of the online retailers is fine, really. Only thing is - what are the specs on your volume and tone pots? Should be 250k for all 3 - but the humbucker might have utilized a 500k. single coils seem to like lower resistance pots. a 500k will work, but it might be a bit darker. Not a big deal. Youll have to pull out the coil split for the humbucker if one existed. No big deal there. Check out seymour duncan's website for a wiring diagram for the SSS strat. Duplicate that and you're ready to rock. |

Wondering if someone can help me trouble shoot here? I've got the Humbucker replaced with a Texas Special Single Coil Bridge Pickup. My selector switch doesn't look anything like the diagram from Seymour Duncan though. Their drawing shows 8 contact points in 2 rows (4 and 4) on the Selector Switch (SSS, 1 Vol, 2 Tone, 5-Way Sel Switch). My guitar's selector switch has way more than that, and some of them soldered/jumpered together. I have the Black Wire going from the Bridge Pickup to the Volume Pot, which is exactly as it's shown in the Seymour Duncan diagram. Since the drawing doesn't match my Guitar, I had to guess where the White Wire from the Bridge Pickup goes. I ended up connecting it to the same row of Contacts where the other two White Wires from the other Pickups are connected, but I still had to guess exactly which contact point. The problem I'm having is the Bridge pickup plays fine by itself, but when I try to switch to the Middle and Bridge pickup I get a significant loss in volume. Does anyone with experience with this kind of stuff know what could be happening? Here's the stock configuration of my guitar: http://support.fender.com/service_di...0_02A_SISD.pdf Here's the wiring diagram I'm trying to use to convert it to an SSS: Wiring Diagram Should I run the White Wire of the New Bridge Pickup to the exact same location where the White/Red Wires were for the Humbucker? Please help |
