So I've been browsing around and without going over budget, I've finally come to a decision... Almost. The marshall vintage modern 2266 head and I'm going to still have to rent a few cabs and decide on that. I play In three main styles and they include harder rock ( comparable stylistically to them crooked vultures) blues, (which i dig this amp for) also for something comparable to a joe dsatriani style genre. Sorry, i'm using the iPhone app here... I was going to say that so far i use a tc electronics nova dynamics compressor, tube screamer, dunlop wah, and a memory man. I love my pedals right now and my amps but im finding versatility to be an issue... So wondering if theres anyone out there with suggestions of comparable amps with the versatility I'm finding in this marshall? Also if anyone has had problems with it? Thanks! Kev. |

We bought a 50-watt Vintage Modern as a studio amp and the only issue we have is that the amp is too versatile for our clients - that is to say it takes a while to get it dialed up. As a single owner it's not a problem for you, but a number of our clients are unfamiliar with the detail/body concept and the dynamic range controls and some clients don't have the patience to really dial the amp up. It's unfortunate, because the amp can sound really good - you just have to work with it a little... On the cabinet side, I'm not use how boutique you want to go, but the 425 cab with the new G12C 25-watters sounds really good; we auditioned the standard Marshall cab with GT75's and a 1960 with Vintage 30's and the Vintage Modern cab sounded way better (surprise, surprise). Check it out... Dave/Suspect Studios .: Suspect Studios :. |

Ah awesome man, thanks for the feedback. I know I've got to try it out with a few cabs and with a few bands , as well as in the studio before I purchase it, so I'll probably rent it and a few cabs. Thanks for the reply! Kev. |

Those amps may have tubes but they are not true tube tone amps by far, sorta like a hybrid. You get what you pay for though, if it makes you happy and its cheap go for it. btw: Blues music with this amp ? what a nightmare.
