| Gear addict | Retubing Engl Head
Hi, My Engl fireball has got really really noisy over the past couple of months so I think its time for a retube. The only problem is my tech has left town and I don't know anyone else I trust or who hasn't messed friends amps up retubing them. So my question is can I retube the amp myself easily? I have changed the tubes in pres and compressors in the past but I have never retubed an amp. It's the biasing that concerns me if I change out the power amp tubes will my head need to be rebiased? I think while I'm changing the power amp tubes I'm going to also swap out some of the pre tubes to try and get a bit more mid out of the head and a little less bottom end. Its my understanding that I can just change the pre amp tubes without rebiasing is this right? Its the 60w Engl Fireball E625 head I have,

You can simply replace preamp tubes as desired. The power tubes should be biased, which means taking the top off your amp and not killing yourself. Maybe check at the Engl forum to see if there's special precautions, otherwise buy a Weber BiasRite and turn the pot till the voltage/current matches what it needs to be...
