Thread Starter | Use the FX loop to get good cleans?
I have a Peavey 5150 mkII and it has monster overdrive and distorted sounds in abundance. I love it! And the same can be said for the Mesa Rectifier series - monster distortions and overdrive sounds. But both sets of amps have so so, not so great clean tones IMO. So the question... Is it possible to patch-in a preamp that does a great clean sound into the FX loop of either the 5150 or Rectifier amps to get some kind of great clean sound? What are your thoughtson this? |

Sure there are preamps to do this, The Barber Barb EQ gives a range from Blackface to Tweedy cleans, Then there is the Boss FDR-1 which apes a Blackface, can be set clean to dirty. Those are two i know off the top of my head. Possibly the Tech 21 Character Series, just about a pedal for every major brand of amp there, but i am not sure how clean they can get.... |
