Thread Starter | 6505 212 Combo crackle and popping. Help
First post here so hi everyone ![]() Now down to my issue. I recently bought a 6505 212 combo for a great deal. From the moment I turned it on the was the usual wall of hiss that these amps always have but also there was a crackle and popping sound that happens. I opened it up and when it would pop the power tubes would flicker and produce a blue light. I figured hey no big deal, just need some new power tubes. I played the amp for awhile before my tubes arrived and the popping and crackle was always there. I used different guitars, different cables. Didnt matter, even continues without a cable plugged in. It would quite down a little and the pops wouldnt be as frequent after the amp warmed up a bit, but the pops never completely went away. Once I would start playing you couldn't really notice it except at low volume and you could crank the amp and it sounded fine and had no problems. I finally got my new power tubes and replaced the old. I turned the amp on and OH JOY..... still popping. The tubes dont flicker with the pops or glow blue like the last set but the noise continues. I know this has nothing to do with the preamp tubes. Ive tested them and even swapped the entire set out for the ones out of a friends amp. This problem lies beyond tubes, and I am fairly new to tube amps and don't really know where to go from here. Ive been told that spraying some deoxit in the tube sockets could help as it may be cause by them being dirty. Ill try that but I just want some good opinions on this. So what the heck is going on with this thing? I would appreciate your help. Thanks for your time everyone. |

I had some crackling and popping after trading my beat up JSX for the 6505 212 combo. Everything seemed in great shape. There were brand new tubes in it also, I verified. What ended up fixing it was a combination of two things: 1. I used contact cleaner on every single jack and on the tube slots, just worked the cable/tube in and out a bit 2: I switched to a different wall outlet. These are sensitive amps, though they apparently are tough. not a crack or pop now
