Overdrive/Distortion pedal similar to Egnater amp?

Hi guys, I've been wondering if there is any pedal with similar sound to Egnater Rebel, Renegade or Tourmaster sound.

I already know all the facts regarding analog vs digital sound, tubes vs transistors, etc. And even if I already know they cannot be compared quality wise, I do believe that in these modern times and with help of technology, emulation of sounds is possible and it can give you a very similar sound approached to an specific sound.

Anyway, I really love the Egnater sound from the amps I mentioned above, but they are expensive, I'm looking for something more affordable, either pedals or vst/rtas plugins for recording with a similar sound.

Can anybody give me any recommendation?

[EDIT - sorry I can't read! just re-read your first post]

The main problem with just a pedal you'll find is the missing link of the speaker from the equation.

In the case of the Rebel 20 it is (more or less) a Celestion Classic Lead 80

How will you be using the pedal? Into an amp? into a DI for recording?

Analogue pedals:

I'd say your first port of call would be to try an "amp like" OD pedal like the Fulltone OCD. But this is not an "amp sim" - designed to go in front of an amp.

Secondly - maybe check out the Tech21 "Character" pedals for different amp flavours

-

Digital - What amp sim do you already use?

I would find the closest "amp type" to the Rebel (for example) i.e. low power 6V6 "American" or EL84 "British" flavour and then tweak the basic tone to what you hear from the amp/speaker combination.

Speaker impulses: maybe try and find some impulses for the classic lead 80, and then load them into your plugin

I bought the Fulltone OCD and even if it sounds nice, I feel that I need more drive/distortion. The Egnater Renegade or Tourmaster have a similar distortion but more saturated which is really nice, that's the sound I want to accomplish.

Any other recommendation???

I need a single pedal which can give me almost that same sound without having to get an amp with EL84 tubes or a cab with Celestion Elite 80 speakers.

I would prefer not to use the OCD in an overdrive/distortion channel in order to get more distortion.

Maybe look into other fulltone pedals with additional boost/gain like the gt500? Fulldrive? Vox Satchurator? Wampler pedals. Kasha overdrive?

Kasha clip with Phil X

Pete Thorn clip with Boss Power Stack Pedal and Combo Drive - great digital pedals, I must say!

check out Pro Shop guitar videos, Andy demos many quality pedals that might help what you are looking for...I like the Sweet Honey Overdrive pedal, it sounds great-...Surh pedals are some of the few companies that make pedals that sound like and react like amp heads...it might be best just to get the amp itself..I have the Engater MOD-100, Egnater builds great stuff- surely you will find something--

Part of what the trick is with the Egnater sound is there are a hell of a lot of tubes in the curcuit, particularly on a tourmaster. It's kinda hard to get that from a pedal.

Yeah kinda tricky methinks!

I like the sound of the Bearfoot Model H pedal - pretty Hiwatt-like don't you think, Musiclab!

"Musiclab", you are completely right. That's why I said at the beginning that although I know one can't compare the quality of a pedal with a tube amp, I do believe in sound emulation, and each day companies make more modern products that are approaching to original sounds even if probably they will never be exactly the same...

But take the following video as an example... it has nothing to do with pedals, but everything to do with analog vs digital and modern technological developments. Check it out.

What is the rest of your chain? If you are plugging into a clean tube amp, I'd say check out the new Egnater pedals, an Xotic BB pre, or MI Audio crunch box. If not, maybe something like the Stephenson Stage Hog (which is basically an ultra low wattage amp, though for the price of that you could get an Egnater Tweaker). In the digital realm, the best I've heard is the AxeFX, though it's obviously not in your price range if the Egnaters are too much. Never heard a plugin that decently emulates a tube guitar amp. I use plugins every day, but not for that.

But my studio has an Egnater M4-based rack, a Stephenson 40 watt reverb, and a London 18 - so I'm probably not the right guy to ask for recommendations for cheap non-tube alternatives . . . :-)

I have to say as someone who's owned lot's classic amps and has 3 Egnater designed amps, I found the Tweaker 88 to be a big letdown, It just sounded muddy, I had it for a weekend and it was just not even close to my Tourmaster or what I wound up with, which was an Eqnater Mica Tol.
It's funny it weighs A LOT less than the Tourmaster, and maybe that's the problem, maybe the transformers aren't so good. I have to say I love the tone of the Tourmaster and the Mica Tol

the tricky part to remember is that most egnaters have the tube blending option. so you'll need to determine if you like the british or american voicing more, because I doubt theres a pedal that will also be able to blend the two

I liked the original Tweaker, but agree that it is far from 'tight' sounding - though given its architecture I would expect it to be on the 'muddy' side of the spectrum along with Fender tweeds, which sometimes is the right sound and sometimes isn't - part of the beauty of Bruce's designs is that they really do cover radically different ground. For gainer sounds I love the SL2 module from his modular series (my main gigging rig is based around an M4 preamp) which I find great for a smooth-ish hotrodded marshall tone, though for some gainy tones/styles I find it a little to 'sterile'/tight and prefer, for example, my Stephenson where I can get some of the gain/sag from the power amp. All depends on the tone I'm going for.

As I said above, though, for non-tube stomp-boxes the only two I've found that I like for gainy tones are the BB Preamp and the MI Audio Crunch box. The OCD I liked for leads but didn't really love it for the higher gain rhythm sounds (though I've never owned one - my assessment is based on a quick demo and from recordings I've heard - I probably should give it another try).

Perhaps check out the radial stomp-boxes - there are quite a few folks who think they are the closest thing to a 'gainy but relatively smooth amp tone' in a box.

Wampler Slostortion. Only high gain pedal I've been happy with at stage volumes. Sounds amazing and can do High gain to overdrive. A lot of gain pedals sound good at bedroom volume and are thin live. The SLO really shines on stage.
