Thread Starter | Compressor brand/settings for specific bass tone?
Hello folks! I crushed into a couple youtube-links and dropped my ears… This is the EXACT sound I like! The tone(s) contains relatively big amount of compression, and I really enjoy the ”squash” and ”mwah” it produces. Makes the bass sound a bit fretless to my ear… I’m not too familiar with different kind of compressors/settings. So does anyone have any tips how to create a sound like this ”gearwise”? (Please, don’t bother with comments such as ”it’s all in the fingers”… My fingers are pure gold one can always practise more, it’s obvious. )I do own a good piece of gear when it comes to the EQ section. 10band full parametri crack unit. My bass is also a custom De Gier, not too far away from Bona’s Fodera. I use a plugin compressor on my acoustic tracks. I have never used it on electric with distortion because someone on here told me that distortion is a form of compression and about 10 people chimed in that they agree. But I also have a compression/sustain DOD pedal that I have used live with much success. I say if it works, **** it, use it. There are no hard fast rules to recording. Well, beyond don't squash the dynamics out if your music like they do on all commercial recordings nowadays...
