Thread Starter | Vox continental power cord
Guys, I've come across a nice Vox Continental 301E organ. The only thing is, it doesn't have a power cord. This is what it looks like on the back: ![]() Is this a European cord? And more importantly, where can I buy this in California/online? Thanks in advance! |

If memory serves that is the male end of an old-style UK figure of eight connector. You will have a hard time finding one with the same sized and spread pins nowadays, but it would be worth trying to locate a fig 8 female to see just how far out it is. From memory, these are about the spread of a regular bayonet light fitting. Aha! A lightbulb moment! They still have (in older houses) a thing called a 'prise confort' in France and I would guess (have them in both houses in france but no way to check from UK) that a prise confort socket would be just about the right size. If it were mine I would be CAREFULLY removing the plate with the connector on it and hard wiring something that would work from the inside. But then I have a background in electronics. if you don't have the chops to DIY, I am sure a local Hi-Fi or even music equipment Mr Fixum could help you out without destroying the collectability value of the organ. That black plate is removable. If you remove that plate it exposes the sheet metal box underneath. I cut a bigger hole in the metal box for a modern IEC jack and left off the black plate. This way you still have the original black plate to revert it to original vintage condition.

In a pinch, a consumer electronics 2-prong cord as found on DVD players, etc. should work; you may need to use a knife to split the "prongs" in 2 to better fit the pin location. But if you don't mind modding, replacing with a IEC power outlet would be the way to go. I had my Farfisa Compact Duo serviced at Advanced Musical Electronics in Venice; they were able to go over old caps, etc. and now it sounds great. Good resource to have. 8665 Venice Blvd. 310-559-3157 Advanced Musical Electronics - 29 Years of Service in Los Angeles
