Thread Starter | Question about Peavey XXX tubes/valves
Hey guys Ive had my Peavey XXX head for around 4 years now. Loving the sound from it, im looking into enhancing that sound by retubing the amp. Im a guitarist of 10 years, but when it comes to what valves to look for etc im not that well informed. Any suggestions on where to begin? I dont have a budget i just want it to sound the best it can. Thanks for help in advance. Craig |

I had this problem when it came to putting new valves in my classic 30. I went to Hot Rox UK - Computer Matched Valves Guitar effects pedals Electro harmonix Guitar Strings Hot Rox UK and basically trawled through the valves that I know to be in my amp already and for many of them there are alternatives that are the same type but have different sonic characteristics. I'm sure theres a comparison chart on manufacturers website showing which valves are interchangeable without having to mod the amp. I used all JJ's in mine and it made a big difference. Used a match quad of gold pins in the pre amp and changed the output tubes to ones that were described to have a warmer overdrive tone. They sound great! I'm sure someone else will chime in with more info though.
