Bass Guitar Suggestions

Hello Everybody,

As the holiday season approaches one thought has recurrently plagued my mind, what type of bass should I invest my hard earned cash in? My old bass has a neck so thoroughly warped and a truss rod so thoroughly stripped it would cost more to fix it than the bass is worth, so it is time for an upgrade. Do you guys have any suggestions for a new bass? I am heavily favoring a fender MIM jazz bass, but am worried it won't be able to get the fat, thick, warm bass tones that I want. Totally open to suggestions. Anyone had a particularly good experience with a particular bass? I'm looking to keep it under $700. Smooth, easy playability is a must. Go.

I own an older MIM Precision and gt to play a modern MIM Jazz every Wednesday afternoon (don't ask!) and love both of them.

Fat sound? Easy.

Mind you if you could find one of those MIJ Squier Jazzes they were selling so cheaply a few years back.....
