OCD cool! OCD sounds more OverDrive and not quite enough distortion for some things....

For high gain I too like the Hardwire Valve Distortion, even though there's no valves in it! I also like the demos of the Wampler Triple Wreck and the Blackstar HT-Dual.

yeah, very true. I actually don't like it on higher gain settings. Sounds a bit fizzy. But on lower gain settings it's really nice.

Sometimes for heavier sounds I chain 2 pedals together.. Distortion into overdrive to try and simulate what would happen from a cranked amp and power tubes.

Moved away from OCDs over the years myself. I just starting hating 3 knob boxes, where the "tone" is pretty much a treble roll off w no bass control. Just my tastes but the OCD was OK w the gain about 9-10:00 but I do not like really gainy overdrives. If I want intense gain I go to a uber tube channel or a fun pedal.

If you want high gain distortion that is quality and articulate I recommend Wampler. I got a Pinnacle Deluxe last week and it has been a lot of fun playing.
The Pinnacle like all of Brian Wampler's Pedals have a wide range of versatility in gain and usage. I think he makes some of the best overdrives and high gains you are going to find.

If you want decent for low bucks (Digitech) Hardwire makes a great line of pedals. AMS and zZounds offers payment plans with no qual and no financing charge and they have Wampler.

I'll tell you one of my all time fav pedals which never leaves my board, is the new Ibanez Tube King, the red unit burns, very tonal without washout and a real tube running 100v internal. Only like $150. I get an amazing Pagey tone out of this pedal that nothing else really gets.

If you want the EVH Brown sound the Pinnacle brings it to any amp you put it on.

I would perhaps stick a Suhr Riot on your list of things to try out!

I really, really like the Fulltone Plimsoul. I have used it all Summer on about 80 gigs and have absolutely itchiness to move onto the next pedal (very rare).

Fulltone OCD is great as long as you're running off an 18v power supply, otherwise it sounds limp and floppy. The Keeley modded DS-1 is great as well, very beefy compared to the standard DS-1.

Then there's this guy - more of a fuzz, but thick, brutal tones, great for chords and lead: TWOSOME DUAL FUZZ

my tone palette is musket fuzz, ds1 modded and lovepedal eternity.
what about a classic tube screamer or a variation of that?
lovepedal eternity? kalamazoo? both nice

or maybe a timmy. timmy is good. lots of gain, treble&bass cut controls.

btw, what's thin to you? mid-scooped or not enough low-mids?

the rat is a good distortion box, with lots of bass. the tone control is a hi-pass.

madprofessor's tube screamer has a mid-pass tone control which shifts cut frequencies.

i had the OCD, i liked a bit at first but then i soon get rid of it. it was too much "edge-y" to me

BB preamp is big full compressed and dirty if you want.
i didn't like it so much myself btw

crunch box is really cool too, but it's on the high gain side.

king of tone is awesome, but it's very expensive and the waiting list is a sad joke.
i wish analogman to make a single channel version, because i don't need two.

On the lower end side, I like a Marshall Jackhammer, because it has alot of sustain and compression (ideal for my single coil guitars), and it has alot of bass if you need it. It's cliche and common, but it's hard to beat at what it does, because it's affordable and has alot of versatility.

On the higher end side, if you're into spending a couple of hundred dollars or maybe the $150 range, check out Wampler's stuff....Plextortion, Pinnacle, etc--he's one of the pedal makers that have really sought out to maximize the options in straight up distortion, whereas alot of other pedal makers tend to focus on overdrive and/ or fuzz pedals. ZVex's Box of Rock sounds great, too.

Resonant Effects / Field Effects Manifold is really huge sounding. Opposite of thin. Love it.
