What is your studio's main acoustic guitar?

What acoustic guitar do you have in the studio? If more than one, which one is the go-to wood?

Here its a 2009 Martin Custom D35

Pics more than welcome!

I go between a Martin HD28, HD35 and a D16. Like to have options. To be honest tho any of them could do the trick at any time. It's a luxury to have options.

I have a Blue Lion. Actually, make that 2 Blue Lions. One I keep in "Nashville" tuning.

HD28v, D-18vs are the main winners for most tasks. I've also got a 1923 Martin O-18 that gets used a lot. Just depends on the material.

2000 Taylor 810 and 2002 HD28KM Keb Mo Limited Edition (Koa sides and back)
Very complimentary tones, and quite often we track with both of them depending how lush an acoustic tone is called for...

I have a Mossman Texas Plains. Great sound for articulate work. A bit too must attack for chords in my opinion.

I have an early 70'ies Gibson Dove that really records well.

The maple sides and back give it a slimmer tone, and make it really shine close miked...especially for strumming. What is your studio's main acoustic guitar?-imageuploadedbygearslutz1322958041.250387.jpg

I got lucky and found a lowly Martin DM that is heavenly. $350 out the door on consignment...I had already a decent acoustic, but was "window shopping" for "the one" over a period of a few years...and when I heard this one it was mind-blowing after playing anything from $100-$5000 guitars.

I didn't even have the money to buy it when I found it...I sold a bunch of go-fast parts for my next motor build (I used to club race) in my local club at a major loss to buy it...got the money in 24 hours and picked it up...never regretted it since!

Also nice racks you've got there.

I got even luckier and found the Martin/Sigma version. Just records like a dream when that sound is the right one.

I think you need to have a go to small guitar around. I have and old Stella and an older Kalamazoo.

Seagull S6. Cheap? Yes, and it shows when DI, but with bright strings and a warm mic it's $400 sounds infinitely better than my friend's $2,000 Taylor according to him

The Loar Lh-250

I just purchased a Loar LH-250 guitar from a great seller on Ebay. I haven't seen too much chatter about the 250, which is the all solid wood version of the LH-200, which I have seen a lot of people talk about.

I've only had it for about a week, but its awesome. Incredible craftsmanship, regardless of the price. I bought it to have as another guitar to do simple guitar/vocal stuff and it has quickly become my go to acoustic for everything.

Most of the demos of these guitars on youtube really highlight their sound for blues, but they're just as great for ballady type stuff, etc. A good friend of mine (who suggested the brand) brough over his Laravee parlor guitar and we were both impressed with how similar the sound was.

If you're looking for an acoustic for recording (or gigging for that matter), you should check these out. The Loar

I have a few, and the one that's go to is my Martin 000-28 which records like a dream. Although I've used my Blueridge Br-43 on quite a few recordings, it hangs in there with the Martin.

I've heard a couple of different people playing in coffee houses lately with $400 Seagull's. I'm a Taylor lover, but boy they sounded good through the p.a. Impressive for such a inexpensive instrument. Does it sound better or as good as my Taylor 815CE...definitely not. But that's not really a fair comparison.

Larrivee P-10 Parlor in Quilted Mahogany

The extended mids of this guitar cut through a mix very well.

martin 000c-16RGTE aura. I find this smaller body guitar is less boomy then others I have recorded. The aura system is also pretty amazing and blends very well with my mic. I am very happy with it.

As good as the larger body guitars may sound to our ears, it can be a problem
to control the low end.

They may be the right choice if you are trying to add guitar warmth to
a solo vocal performance, but in a busy mix with bass taking over the low
end, you can end up with too much of a good thing.

The smaller parlors and 00's tend to sit better in a busy mix.

With mahogany back and sides, my Larrivee is quite mellow
to the ear, but you put a mic and a good pre amp in front of it and
it just loves to be recorded.

I have S6 original (no pickup). This guitar is a real revelation.

I use a Martin D-35 (Johnny Cash Commemorative) and a Guild GAD-50e (a cheaper made in china guitar but it can bark with the big dogs). Between the two I always find what I'm looking for.

I used the Beleze Bianca for one recording and it was the best sounding acoustic guitar sound I have been able to get so far, but every time I try to get it again I fail miserably. I actually find that it is one of the hardest guitars to get a good sound out of with the gear I have.
