Guitar tuner for set-up, strobe/intonation

Can anyone recommend a good guitar tuner to do my own guitar and bass set ups? I know Peterson strobe tuners are great but will anything cheaper than $200.00 do the job as long as it's accurate within +/-.1cent?

Thanks,

Hi, I just set up a intonation on a telecaster with a old Boss tuner that still used a VU meter. I found that the VU meter was very useful, but you had to let the VU meter completely roll off - you do not need a expensive tuner to do this - the most accurate tuner I'm using on the pedalboards is the TC electronic polytune , although I still tune one string at a time hence the new design on that tuner - any good chromatic tuner should work ok...

I also set the intonation in playing position with the guitar over my shoulder, not on the bench and make sure you stretch the new strings well before starting the intonation process, also make sure you neck is adjusted properly before so as well... good luck !

I use the turbo tuner for this - actually I have three of them now and have sold ALL my other tuners including an old peterson strobe.

Great! I was actually looking at the TC Polytune to use for this but was not sure that the accuracy and the LED type display was good enough for a set-up. I really like the TC Poly function of being able to look at a chord and see which string(s) are out quickly. Do you use the strobe function on the TC Poly for set ups too or just the old Boss needle type? Thank you for your reply.

+1 on the Turbo Tuner. Vastly better than anything else I've ever used. I got an ST-122 when they came back in stock, and like it so much I ordered another the day I received it. I'm thinking of picking up an ST-200 for my pedal board. I keep a Peterson StroboFlip mounted to my music stand, but the Turbo Tuner is far easier to use. When I'm playing with others, I just set it up on top of an amp and let it run. If anyone needs to tune, they can see it from across the room.

For $10, the Petersen iStrobosoft app for the iPhone is the best hands down. works even sitting on top of the amp without being plugged in.
