My Old Guitars

Howdy folks. I'm new to the GS forum, but have been a lurker here for awhile. You guys are a fabulous resource of wealth and knowledge. Thanks!

I have come off about a decade of playing guitar in a live setting, and want to focus on staying home and making music with my family, and doing small recording projects (demos, etc...). I am a certified vintage guitar addict so everything I've got is old. I don't have any museum pieces. All of my gear has been repaired or worked on in some way. Right now I'm a bit heavy on guitars and light on recording gear, so I may be moving on some of this stuff in the future in order to help pay for my home studio upgrades. No real reason for this post other than to say hi and to keep the pics of my guitars here on this forum for reference.

My acoustics are going to be staying with me - they are too special to sell.

1936? Gibson L-00 (my favorite!):

It has a ton of signatures scratched into the back from the mid-30's. A bunch are from a New year's party from 1936:

This guitar is fantastic. Easily my favorite I have ever owned, and it just lends itself to writing and recording wonderfully. Here is my wife writing a song on it:

1954 Gibson J-45. This one is a cannon for sure. It picks up where the L-00 leaves off and provides a huge midrange punch.

Some electrics

1958 Gibson Les Paul Jr. TV Model:

1966 Fender Telecaster:

1967-'68 Gibson ES-355 (with Keith Richards mods):

1950's? Oahu Lapsteel:

Anyways, thats about it for now. Thanks for looking guys, and again thanks for all the assistance!

Pretty cool Gibson there.

Here's a Kalamazoo from the same period (1933).

Nice collection. The J-45 is the one that calls to me.

Cool share.
God it'll kind of be sad to turn your 3 electrics into a decent home studio. But not sad if it's your pursuit I've gotta throw out a "are you sure you won't regret it (when your protools rig feels obsolete)?"

I often have to remind myself to not sell any guitars, 70's strat sale...regret. 90's prs sale...meh (j/k couldn't resist the dig). So i'm 50/50

Beautiful!

Has that Jr.'s bridge been modded for a rough intonation compensation?

It's better than rough. I had Dan Erlewine's shop machine a wraparound bridge that gives spot on intonation. Its gets as close as a tune-o-matic can get.

I would NOT sell guitars to buy studio electronics, especially computer stuff. The guitars are always going to be worth something, old studio gear, unless it's tube stuff or really cool, can depreciate to basically nothing!

I'd start with some decent basics, haunt Ebay and pawn shops looking for good gear from yesterday that still sounds great and go from there. Don't get caught up in the "newest and coolest studio gear" search! OTOH, if you want to sell the 355 or the Jr., let me know

I would never sell guitars to get a home studio setup. A pro tools set up is lifeless. Those guitars have history and hold actual value. I fear it is a mistake you will regret. Home studios are over rated.

Thanks guys.
The only one Im actually considering selling at this point is the ES-355.
The others all at least have the original finish and are the most complete of the bunch.
