Keith Urbans look comfortable. Anyone know what they are? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKg1qWRs4Eo

The greatest strap ever made was by a company called Mountain Leatherworks. Elderly sold them about 20 years ago. It was heavy holster leather on the front and suede on the back. They were adjustable, but instead of using the common loopback or a buckle, it was just two strips of leather held together with Chicago screws and a leather lace. The neck side tapered from 2" down to 1" around 8" from the body, so you didn't feel like the strap was in the way past your neck. It was in some ways similar to a banjo strap, but heavier, and made for guitar. I think Mountain Leatherworks made, or makes premium gun holsters. If anybody knows anything about these straps, or knows someone who makes something similar, please post it here. I would buy a lifetime supply if I could find them again.

I got a "Medina-Made" strap for my mandolin that I think is really well done. Check out their guitar straps (I personally find the Elderly-branded ones kinda tacky -- due to the branding, not the quality of the leather work -- but the rest are nice). I typically buy Levy's straps for guitar, but if I were looking for hand-tooled leather work, Medina's was really nice and pretty affordable. Search - Elderly Instruments

Jodi Head makes some nice straps. My favorite strap is an old leather reunion blues strap that's been on my 69 Les Paul Custom since 77

My buddy made this for me, and it's unreal. It's all hand made, and it's got kind of a neoprene padded back on it. Won't slip, doesn't get sweaty, feels like there's no weight on it. Plus it looks cool as hell. |

I'm really diggin' my Heartwoodes straps. I got both of them as gifts, and they've lasted and have been really comfortable. Check 'em out. Heartwoodes Exotic Wood Guitar Straps |

Anyone who's interested in one of these straps, PM me and I'll put you in contact with my guy. I hope this isn't considered spam. I don't get anything for referrals, but he probably doesn't want me posting his email. IMHO, I've not seen straps like this anywhere. Part of me doesn't want to tell anyone about him so I can have the only one!!! HA... but I'll settle for having the first one. |

I've been using Comfort Strapps on most of my basses & guitars these days, really happy with those. But the holy grail for me is to find something like the strap I had on my guitar ~35 years ago: No idea what brand it was, just a 3" wide strip of blonde ultra-supple suede that felt as creamy-soft as a pron star's ass, and yet was as indestructible as...er, well, as a pron star's ass.
