Thread Starter | Cable suggestions for wiring 2 GCX, rack units, and pedals?
I am currently building my rack setup which mainly consists of 2 GCX units, ISP Decimator Pro Rack G, Korg DTR-2000, and a bunch of pedals for effects. Does anyone have suggestions on what cables to use for wiring this rig? I would like to keep cost down as much as possible but without sacrificing a lot of quality. The Lava ELC Solder-Free kit looks good but have never used solderfree cables before. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

It sounds like you are a pretty serious guitarist with a rig like that. If it were me, I'd either myself, or find someone that can make a bunch of patch cables to some short standard lengths. Maybe 6", 9", 12", 24"..or something like that. I am a big fan of the Canare GS-4 cable, however I think there is a Mogami equivalent which is essentially the same cable with a different name. For connectors I'd go soldered no doubt, for the mechanical durability. I've used Neutrik before but they are a bit bulky. Perhaps the Switchcraft might be more suitable. I know CAE use some Switchcraft...I'd imagine they'd have a pretty good idea of what they were doing. -Rob |

For myself, I agree with building the cables to length. Just learn to solder, get a good iron and a good wire stripper. For my pedalboard the Canare was just too dark, went with George L's cable and soldered Switchcraft ends and it sounds good. Not super expensive either. If you can't solder maybe talk to Lava Cables about what he'd recommend, he seems a good guy. |
