Thread Starter | 2x12 cab recommendations?
I'm sure this is a topic that has been covered many times but nothing really fitted my specific criteria. I'm after a 2x12 cab for my Mesa Mark IIC+ head... I'm thinking preferably closed back but as I said I'm open to suggestions, now before you start listing off endless cabs, I live in Australia and nearby there isn't much aside from the major brands (ie I can get my hands on Mesa, Diezel, Orange and the like but not much else). I've had an offer of a Koch 180W 2x12 which seem to be well reviewed but I can't see one in store around where I live to try one out before I go through with the deal, wondering if anybody knew anything about those? The reality is, unless the Koch is any good, I'll probably go and buy an Orange 2x12 as that was the one that sounded the best to my ears in the store. So yes, any extra opinions would be much appreciated. |

I love the Fender Supersonic cab. It's vintage 30's in a birch cab. Sound great with every head I've put through it.

Supersonic eh? Never thought a fender would be much of a contender in this area but I don't see what the harm is in trying, I think one of the joints a bit away from me stocks fender amps so they should have one, I'll give it a go, but yeah Orange looks to be the way to go currently.

Personally for my rig, I've been using an oversized Mesa 2x12 Roadster cab. Great sound, and matched with an Auralex Gramma, it's worked wonders.

I love the mesa 2x12 vertical cab. I swapped one of the v30's for a G12 and it sounds awesome. It sounded great before with the 2 v30's too. Very big sound.

I've used both and liked them equally.

Unfortunately the vertical 2x12's aren't exactly readily available around here, the Orange is about $400 cheaper than the Roadster 2x12 new ($800 vs $1200) and the supersonic will run a similar price to the Orange, yeah Australia is great hey? :P Of course I'm willing to shell out a bit more if something is significantly better (which may be the case) but if in doubt I'm not just gonna throw money around, I'll go into a couple of stores today and get back to you guys. Thanks for all the help so far! Keep it coming! | |

[QUOTE=ant_mcbane;6867418]What sorta G12? Actually I used a G12 H. I know it's only 30 watts but it sounds great with the v30. |

Buy a Mills cab if you can afford it, it's a great sounding cab that is built like a tank, the 2x12 I have sounds amazing and it puts my 4x12's to shame, highly recommended

The best 2x12's I have had are: Ear Candy Buzzbomb Splawn (change out the Eminence to Celestion or Warehouse Reapers) Mesa's are OK.

Following the recommendations on the Orange PPC212 - are you guys talking about the open back or the closed back version?

I just got a custom 212 cab from Zillla Cabs. 1 Vintage 30 and 1 G12H in a very solid enclosure that can be either open or closed back by way of some removable panels. Paul at Zilla set it up for me in 2*8ohm stereo or 4/16 ohm mono configuration using a Marshall plate which pretty much lets me play every amp I own through it. The sound is great and it looks awesome. They have a good choice of cloths, tolex, piping etc. and Paul was a pleasure to deal with. The international shipping was very cheap (£25 to Denmark). check out their site zillacabs.com |
