Thread Starter | String tension
I just finished putting together a custom strat and I'm noticing the tension when I bend is much greater on the strat than my 72 telecaster. I'm using 10s on both guitars, the scale length is 25" on the strat, 25.5" on the telecaster. The action is the one thing I think could be the problem, but it seems like the action is pretty similar on both guitars. I have measuring tool but I can't be sure I'm making the measurements properly. It's really bugging me because this is similar to another guitar I have, they just dont play as easily as my 72 tele, though the tele is MIM whereas the other two are American made..Oh and the strat has 3 springs in the back along with an LSR roller nut... Any ideas??? Thanks! |

If the bridge has stronger springs than your 72, that might be part of the issue. Action setting should be about 2-3/32's buzz free. Also measure the height of the bridge itself between guitars.

Scale length plays a role, but also break angle at the saddle and nut. My Tele feels much stiffer than my Strat, so your situation seems curious. TK |
