| Gear addict | Mesa Studio 22...too quiet?
I went to try a Studio 22 amp yesterday and was surprised at the low maximum volume. My Blues Jr. goes way louder than this. Is this a burned-out v2 tube or effects loop problem? The guy said it was because there was no footswitch. Interestingly, when turning the Master up from 2 to 6, the volume went down and the tonality changed from full-sounding to thin.

That is not right . It should be pretty darn loud at something like 18 watts or so .

Right, that is what I was expecting. I could converse with the guy while playing. Just wondering if it is a quick and easy fix.

They are fairly simple amps but it still could be tricky to find the exact problem. Most likely its a bad tube but as the saying goes, "could be anything". I worked as a tech at a repair shop and one had a bad pot that was causing the output to be very low. Best bet is to swap tubes and if that dosen't fix it, take it to an authorized Mesa repair shop.

Makes me angry dealers will still try to sell amps that obviously have something wrong with them :/
