Fender Princeton Reverb vs Deluxe Reverb for recording

Which records better?I won't be using it for gigs and such, just recording.

I am looking for a nice clean sound.

They both will do the trick. If you're serious about recording tho I suggest you find a vintage one or purchase a new boutique amp that's point to point. Where those reissues can sneak by on stage, their weakness really comes out in a studio. Check out Victoria amps. Worthy investment.

They are close but distant relatives.
Deluxe all the way.New or Old.The princeton is OK but a good deluxe has the starting point of the what and why people like the Fender clean. From there forward it's more watts and so on....

Princeton Reverb - Mike Campbell from Tom Petty, lots of players. Perfect tone and size for recording, and nails Fender clean well.

Options - for some more money, the Fender Brown Princeton sounds a little different, and the tremolo is fantastic; you don't get the reverb, but for recording not usually an issue. It's my next purchase if I can find one under a Grand...

Finally got a Princeton Reverb RI (Orange), I found a good deal and took it home.

I've been testing it and so far I am very happy with.It is exactly what I was looking for, you can record at low levels at home, nice clean fender sound and the reverb and vibrato are really nice.

The Deluxe is too much for home, like a Vibrolux I had some years ago.

Glad you like it!

A great upgrade for that amp - Mullard's CV4024 tube is only $30, but makes a big difference as the phase inverter tube in Fenders. I ordered mine through Mike Kropotkin at KCA NOS Tubes (KCA NOS Tubes. Audio tubes for guitar amplifiers and audiophile equipment. 12AX7, 6L6GC, 12ay7, el34, el84, Fender amplifier,5AR4, 5U4GB, cv4004, 6SN7, 8417, 7027, gz34, Mullard, EF86, 6ca7, 6bq5, 7025, 12at7 | kcanostubes.com |). Changing preamp tubes is easy and will let you dial in your sound even more. Mike's a great guy and will work within your stated budget, amp and tone goals.

Congrats!

I have both vintage. a 67 blackface deluxe stock and a 68 princeton modded with a 12" speaker. I go for the Princeton every time. The reverb is incredible, you can drive if without blowing out the windows and the tremelo is to die for.
