Interesting - please post pix. I bought the Windsor as a quick backup when my Marshall had to go in for repairs and I had a few gigs (MF was blowing them out for $300 I think) and I thought it was a fine backup for my JCM800 when it was down.

I will get pics up of the internals shortly. This work is easy to do. I'm sure amp techs will find it and profit from it, but in the end as long as players have great amps, I'm happy. And besides, I don't expect people to ship their heads to me. The tone of the amp is undeniably great. It's unique as hell, but can also be familiar. It has massive punch and a growl-ie low end if pushed hard. You can ramp the preamp gain all the way up and dial back the master and the notes of the guitar still come through with distinguishable clarity. This is uncommon to say the least. And there is a difference between saturation and compression. The boost control on the amplifier is outstanding once modified as well. I'm going to have some sound bites available in short order. |

i've just done the preamp and standby-switch-mods and am really impressed in the sound improvement! aditionally i did an additional gain mod and have a compressor with eq in the effect loop. before the mod(s) the windsor sounded a little crappy while preamp volume was set to max, had no real punch - sounded sterile and dead. also the mid pot did most improvement when it was set off. finally the amp came to life! i soldered a 0.02ยต cap at C41. if there's any way to use your mod and keep all 4 tubes in, please let me know. thanks a lot, CDA! greetings from germany |

Certainly you can keep all 4 outputs in it. I just modded it originally for a fellow that wanted it to run at lower output...

I Just had Adam at "Chrome Dome Audio" in Cincinnati, Ohio perform the Peavey Windsor modification that he has listed here on my amp. He did everything except he kept mine at 100 watts instead of reducing it to 50 watts... Let me tell you first hand that my Windsor head is now a creamy rockin machine! It cleans up real nice and if you add a tube screamer... Look Out!!!! This head sounds way better than the Marshall JCM 800 that I had. Adam is the man! If you have a windsor head....do yourself a favor and get this mod done! You will love it! Tim Bennington, Lawrenceburg, Indiana |
