They're NOT common tubes and $35 isn't bad for a vintage power tube (check out prices on Mullard EL34s or Gold Lion KT88s if you want heartburn).

Welcome to the world of oddball tubes - not so oddball in the 60's when Guild was using these tubes and they were probably also used in Televisions, old Australian PA systems, B52 bombers, etc. No one is remaking these, so your options are: 1. Buy NOS tubes and be prepared to pay a higher price ($35/tube isn't bad) 2. Mod your amp to take another more popular tube - this needs to be done by a competent amp tech, and afterwards, your amp won't sound like your amp 3. Sell your amp and get a model that sounds similar that takes more available tubes. eBay Store: Search results for Captain Bob's Electronic Emporium. looks like he has them.

ok so let me get this straight, first of all great feedback i appreciate everything, the 6gw8's are a preamp tube?... or power tube? As i assume from the reply's they are interchangeable with EL34's and KT88's? and if i mod my amp its not my amp, thats a no no. i love this tone, i've made it my own, and if i have to drop 70 bucks to keep it then no big deal, thats just maintenance, i want to get exactly what i need though

They are power tubes and are not a direct swap for any other tubes like EL34s or KT88's. I'd bite the bullet and pay the $35 each.
