Thread Starter | Emulated Line Out of a Real Amp vs Software/Modeling Amp question Hey guys, Heres the basic question if you want to skip all the extra stuff in the middle "if I go with the emulated output on a real amp will my sound be much better then that of any amp modeling software" So for the full post... I have been using Guitar Rig 3 for a while, and while my sounds couldn't match the pop-punk sounds of Paramore, Say Anything, Blink 182, or stuff produced by Max Martin or Dr. Luke; I figured these were professional producers, who worked with great engineers and masterers and I could cut myself some slack if my stuff wasn't up to theirs. I also figured the cost, noise, and messiness of trying to buy amps and mics would not be worth it compared to DI into my computer. However, I recently watched some guys videos on youtube he was getting some sounds out of his real amp emulatd line out guitar/set-up that I find very hard to get out of NI Guitar Rig 3... Sounds like: Distorded Guitar in the chorus that was not extremely harsh Distorded Leads that again did not sound harsh A chunky palm mute(similar to that in Paramore's Misery Business) More expression with vibrato Better sound with things like pick slides and harmonics The song in the link below has the distorded chorus, palm mute sound in the 2nd verse, and lead guitar after the second chorus. It seems like the sounds that were achieved in this video would be impossible with Guitar Rig 3 or any amp modeling software based off of my experience no matter how good a mixer one is. YouTube - My "Love Story" Cover So on this guys website he states that "For guitar recording I plug directly into the back of a Marshall AVT50H head Emulated Output directly into the Mixer." So, is it likely that if I go with the emulated output on a real amp my sound will be much better then that of any amp modeling software? Does anyone have experience with both of software and the emulatd line out? Thanks for any help you can provide.. |

| AVT50s are not even responsive amps anyway, they are pretty terrible amps to be honest. If you want palm mutes, avoid Guitar Rig like the plague. What you need is Peavey Revalver or POD Farm. Laugh all you want, but POD Farm's palm mutes are much tighter and controlled than GR3. |
