Can anyone help me find an amp?

Think tiny terror from orange. Small, low output 7/15w, class a and ab. I want something of this power and features but the tones of a mesa rectifier. Anyone know of anything that exist? Or any boutique companies that would make it?

Why don't you just get the mesa and use a good attenuator with it.. or better yet, have one of Kevin Oconnor's power scaling mods dropped in.

I suggest this because at that wattage... very few amps are going to give you class a and ab switching or all the switches and knobs and features that the mesa has.

Something to think about anyway. good luck on the quest.

The Mesa Mark V has more features than pretty much any amp on earth, and you can bump it down to 10 watts. Sounds like it might fit the bill for you.

I also forgot to mention the Egnater Rebel 20 - Looks like a really cool little amp for the money.

Nice post because the only thing that's really going to sound like a Mesa, IS A MESA!

+1 on the attenuator route, I have a THD hotplate on my 5/25 and being able to drive the power section at low volume really adds an extra dimension of sparkle and chewy tube goodness, in fact it really improved the sound and from now on I'm planning on putting an attenuator on every amp I get (though right now this is enough).

You're most likely not going to find an amp with everything you want. That being said the Mesa Express 5:25 is something that would probably fit the bill fairly well for you. I had a chance to work with one for about a week and was very surprised how big it's balls were, check one out if you get a chance.

cheaper option than botique or mesa option would be Blackstar HT-5 comes in combo with 10" or stack... but u can drive a quadbox or 12" etc. Add some tasty valve research called ISF from a guy that left Someubscurebritishamplifiercompany and you should be able to dial in some tasty tone.

The blackstar is a really nice sounding amp and I had a lot of fun recording one a while back but it does not do the Mesa sound. It for sure more of a Marshall sounding amp. I did use it in a session where the guitarist had both is and a dual rec for different tones and we did end up liking the Blackstar better for the song but it didn't sound anything like a rec.

Egnater's Rebel 30 head should hit the streets within days at around $800. I've seen the prototype and it has plenty of headroom and quite a bit of crunch. Tube select and scalable wattage along with a silent recording option makes it pretty versatile. Or you can go with the Mod50 from the Modular side of the Egnater house. Built in the US. 10/50 Watt selector so you can get the squish when you want it and still have enough power to play any room. If you go that route give the COD module a spin. Good luck.

Thanks. Best part is that you're having fun with it. Not the prettiest of things that prototype. But it will get that way.

It'll have an all metal cabinet. It will for now be only a head. Folks seem more and more to be going that way. Easier to drag a cab' and a head to a gig that a combo.

The focus is on giving players something that they can bring in a "paycheck" with, and have a good time doing it.
