Swap a G12T-75 for a ???

I use a Rivera Silent Sister cab for my recording. It uses a Celestion G12T-75 speaker (8 Ohm), but I'm not in love with the speaker. It feels a little to tight, and scooped. I used to have a cab with v30's that I think probably is a better speaker for what I do. Any suggestions on other replacement speakers? Something fatter and more tone-full than the G12T-75?

V30s defintely aren't scooped. If anything they are spiked in the mids. But great sounding speakers and could fit your bill. If you want something more powerful take a look at a Classic Lead

I don't like V30's for anything else than metal. I think a Celestion Gold or a G12H-30 might suit you very well!

I just switched my Marshall 1960 from g12t-75's to Warehouse Guitar Speakers Veteran 30's and I couldn't be happier at the moment. Guys that have been recording with me for years keep asking me about these speakers. At first they thought I had done something different with my mic placement or had gotten a new mic or pre. I was skeptical for quite some time about these speakers but I'm very glad I decided to pick them up.

Interesting about the speakers...

Can the OP elaborate a bit on his experiences with the Silent Sister? I'm in the market (the SPL Transducer - though handy - just doesn't cut it for the tones I'm going for.)

Cheers.

Another vote for G12H-30s, great sounding speakers for classic rock...

Greenback are only 25watts, aren't they?
It would limit the use of the Silent sister cab.

I wasn't too crazy about those speakers either. I ended up getting the Eminence 'Man O War' speaker, which is like a G12 with more low end, and slightly smoother highs. I use these in my Marshall JCM900 combo.

What kind of amp are you using and what kind of sound are you going for? That's going to be a bigger help in finding the right speaker for you versus naming speakers that aren't G12T-75's (which is a horrible speaker IMO).

For instance, I tend to like vintage ceramic Jensen's the best, but I also like the clean/crunchy fender sound you hear in many indie rock recordings. For a Marshall type amp with a modern rock feel, I'd consider an Eminence Wizard.

I just built a 2x12 cab (pix and details in this thread) and I was trying to make it sound as much like my Fender Twin which has a pair of G12T-75s in it, but knock off the icepick highs.

After a lot of research and talking to cab builders I ended up with the Warehouse G12C/S speakers, which are a smooth coned version of the Warehouse G12C, which is the Warehouse version of the Celestion, if that makes sense?

Anyway, I'm really happy with them. They seem to go all the way from thump to chime without breaking a sweat, and they have a really nice breakup. Overall the whole Warehouse line seems like great value.
