Thread Starter | Gibson SG pickup toggle question I have a 1978 Gibson SG that I love, but don't use often. I decided to bust it out today and noticed something odd: the neck and bridge pickups sound amazing, but the middle position sounds pretty strange. It's not 'phase-y' strange, it's more like 'it doesn't really differ from the neck pickup' strange. I spent 20 minutes flipping back and forth between the neck and the middle position and I couldn't hear a difference other than the neck being a bit louder. The highs rang the same and the lows felt about the same as well. Any thoughts on what this could be? All my googling points to a wiring issue, but this guitar is 100% original and I've never noticed it before (but, as I said, I rarely use it). Any thoughts? Thanks. |

| take a look at the switch and see if its actually doing its job on the middle position... if you're familiar with gibson 3 way swiches you'll see that when you toggle it you are actually making or breaking one of 2 connections. The connection that's "closed" will be the pickup you hear. When in the middle position both connections on closed so you hear both pickups. Its possible that for some reason the middle position isn't engaging both pickups. You may need a new switch. On a side note... why don't you play that guitar more?
