Change of band, change of gear, change of sound.

Hi all,

I'm currently in a rock/metal covers band. I use Ibanez Rg's with Dimarzio Tone Zones into a Peavey 5150mkII & 4x12" cab. I have a delay pedal on in the FX loop for a bit of extra grease, and that's pretty much it.

I'm also in an originals band (see my sig) and hope to be playing & rehearsing live soon, after a lot of time spent in the home studio. On the demos I used an Orange Tiny Terror and an Ibanez Roadstar, mostly on the neck pickup. I chose this sound cos I find it easier to mix without stomping all over the vocals, but live I'm going to be wanting a heavier tone.....

I have a Washburn N4 Padauk coming from America at the end of the month (after Nuno's signed it in store ) so that's gonna be the basis of my tone.

So I'm wondering what to do ampwise? Should I stick with the 5150? I don't really need a volume boosted 'lead' channel, as I have no other guitarist to compete with, so maybe something simpler? I love the Tiny Terror but the volume is not quite there, even with a 4x12". Maybe two Tiny Terrors, each with it's own 2x12" cab, run from a delay pedal to get a stereo split 'studio' sound?

Or something different altogether - I'm not really up on amps in the last 10 years. Any ideas people?

Cheers,

Jim

I was in the same situation last year where I wanted to have a different tone from what I was using and I now have found that going with a combo is working the best for me...at the moment that is. I like your idea of the tiny terror with a 212 or both running split. Definitly set it up with one and two and use two when you have the stage for it. Good luck with your new musical journey.

I don't know about the tiny terrors but anytime you are using two amps you run the risk of having a ground loop. You'll have to isolate one of your inputs... thegigrig.com has a great product called the humdinger... its a little pricey but it works great.

If you like the sound Tiny Terror you might want to try an Orange Rockerverb... they are pricey but they sound awesome.
