I am exhausted just watching this.

Looking forward to hearing your Racto against all those amps (as I have a Rackto also).

No prob guys. It was beyond. It's 5:20am and I'm uploading the files to soundclick and bouncing the last video. There are 37 amp files and 2 more videos. Crazy! The best part for me there wasn't a moment where I felt, I have to have this. All my personal amps sounded great. There were many really amazing amps. Great night. Dave Friedman really made the night, not only did his amps destroy but he helped me every step of the way from setup to dialing in amps to clean up.

The love that went into this is staggering. It's 7am, I'm still here but I did it, all 37 files are uploaded, everything imaginable thing that could have gone wrong with the upload went wrong but we perceived. Here it is. 2 more videos are on the way.

Awesome job James.

So far the Shiva is my favourite tone captured but I haven't heard everything.

The JCM2000 isn't very impressive to my ears.

Very cool, thanks for doing this! So far it really makes it clear that there is no "one amp solution" out there, lots of good tones, but for quite different reasons.

The biggest difference to me seems to be in the shaping, some amps have more or less transient attack and more or less compression/sustain. If a manufacturer came up with a guitar amp that also had controls for those two elements they'd probably dominate.

Hey James it's Benson. Nice job man, that's some serious dedication!! Turned out fantastic, lots of great stuff to listen to if you're shopping for an amp (I think my wife just took my wallet from me for my own protection p.

And a big shout out to everybody involved. Those that brought amps, and all the guys that helped to make it go smoothly, especially with 20 - 30 people packed into your studio!! .

Great job James

thanks for doing this

I think it turned out great. I like the way you did the cabs. I will say that maybe the space had a bit too much low mids though. But overall it displays the different types of distortion available today

high gain fun

I watched all the videos and listened to all the clips. A real rock epic, a great piece of work and fantastic tool for anyone interested in maniac high-gain tube madness (like me, 9 Boogies {3 are dual rect} and a Marshall in my collection).

I hope you'll post a few more details about the amps. Was the Bogner Shiva 60 watt (EL34) or 80 watt (6L6)? Awesome that Mr. Bogner himself made the scene. Was there a story behind his Christmas hat in June or just part of the insanity?

I'd love to be able to download WAV clips that I could drop into my DAW and A-B the tones side by side instantly. Perhaps you can produce a CD of the raw clip files for this, I'd easily pay a few bucks to help offset the production cost and the cost of the Dos XX required.

Thanks again.

Well Dan and I just got done cleaning and putting the studio back together. I found beer bottles everywhere, very rock-n-roll. Here's a pick of our stack today;
Mesa Boogie Dual Racto
'76 Marshall JMP (Friedman Mod)
Diezel Herbert
'71 Marshall Super Tremolo (Friedman Mod)
'74 Marshall Super Lead

Prosonic is very much a hi-gain amp.
I guess they couldn't lay their hands on one.

It's called the 'Kitchen Sink', it's all 3 main mods.

Brown Eye - Brown sound Van Halenish
Custom 45 - a bit brighter
Hairy Brown Eye - high gain version of the brown eye

Awesome ... no ... AWESOME James!!!

Friedmans Marshall mods and his own amp are rocking hard!

Surprised by the Sovtek and how well the Rocker 30 sits in the mix for the drop-tuned stuff!

The stock 74 Marshall is great too.

I'm more than a little bit in awe of the love that was given to this process. The final files on soundclick are SO helpful in discerning the differences between these amps.

Thanks, James. Between this and the pickup shootout, i think you have earned a place in some sort of guitar geek hall of fame. I mean that in the most loving possible way.

I thought the XTC and the Marsha has the most definition and control. Great rock amps. And a great way to spend day. Looks like you fellas had a great time.

It was a blast! Thanks again James!

I stayed until right after the Soldano SLO and to me it sounded amazing. Since Dave Friedman brought it I though he modded it but he said it was stock.

I got a great deal for a barely used one and I'm loving it. I think it'll work great with the VH4 which is a darker amp.

Overall it was an ear-opening experience. I thought the Bogners faired well along with the Friedman modded amps.

Bogner is quite the character
