We're considering a high gain amp shootout next month

We're thinking about a high gain amp shootout in about a month. Want to see if anyone in LA area wants to come on board and bring amps.

Amps:
Diezel Herbert
Marshall 71' Super Tremolo, Friedman mod, (BE, C45, HBE) EL34's
Marshall 77' JMP MK II, Friedman mod, (BE, C45, HBE) 6550's
Marshall 74' Super Lead
Mesa Boogie 2 Channel Dual Racto
Orange Rocker 30
Marshall JCM800 Re-issue
Soldano SLO 100
EVH 5150 3
EVH 5150
Randall RM100 with mods
Bogner Ubershall
Diezel VH4
Angry Hippie modded Marshall
Friedman Marsha
Jose modded Marshall
Suhr PT100
Friedman modded Ampeg vl1002
Caswell modded Marshall '59 RI

My buddies have some amps I can possibly get; DSL, Matchless etc...

Who in LA is into this and wants to bring their amps to the shootout? Looking for Ubers, Soldanos, Egnators, VHTs, VH4s, Camerons, Wizards, Randalls etc...

Who's into this? Any manufacturers want to send anything or bring it by? If we get some people on board we'll do this. It'll be big fun guys and you'll get to hear all these amps head to head.

Let me know.

James.. if I weren't a few thousand miles away, I'd toss my Rivera TBR1-SL in there. Definitely make sure you throw a Rivera into the mix - maybe the K-Tre or KR-7?

[edit]
just realized Rivera IS out in LA.. maybe someone can get hold of Paul Jr and get an amp brought in for this.

I can bring my Top hat Emplexador. be cool to hear next to the marshalls for sure. Also have an Orange AD30, not sure how different the circuit is from your Rocker.

Gotta get some Bogners there for sure !!!!

I wish I was closer too, so I could bring my Hot Cat 100R

I hope you try both single coils and HB's in the test.

It would also be great to hear these amps through something other than a Vintage 30.

I still think an 18 watt shootout should be somewhere on the things to do schedule
along with an AlNiCo shootout.

I can be in the LA area pretty much any time I want, I have a VooDoo moded VHT Pitbull and a Randall RM100 with the XTC module that I could bring to the shootout.

Dude that would rock, looking at either Saturday June 20th or 27th.

Totally into this idea. Count me in.

Will see if I can round up a worthy contribution to the arsenal...

Try and get a Fender Prosonic added into the mix.
They are wicked amps.

I cant wait to hear this...I own a bunch of amps but am in New York

If I could suggest something(Im kinda a guitar tone freak).

I would try and use the cabinet recommend by the amp maker, in any case that it is possible, because most heads are designed and tweaked with that cabinet.

Then I would find the most neutral cabinet(something without any drastic spikes) and play all of them through that too.

The hardest amps to judge will be the Diezels and Bogners because of there is such a wide range of sounds possible--so many that some actually stray out of the boundaries of the cabinet. You almost need 2 cabs for them.

I would stay in the control room James and only listen in the monitors...haha...both for ear health and judgment

PS...In all my tests with amps I have found that the 5150 is the most Neutral amp ever made. In other words, a Marshall cant come near a Boogie and a Rectifier cant come near a Marshall but a 5150 can at least come close to both in some aspects. Thats not to say its the best--not even close--but its such a safe, simple, cheap, versatile, middle of the road distortion that is not novel in any way. Signature sound though--not a chance
