Thread Starter | Replacing the Power Transformer on Fender Champ.
Hi all Many moons ago I got a '77 Fender Champ from the US and have been using it via a pretty standard step-down transformer (SDT) as it runs on 110 volts and we use 220v here in Denmark. The problem is that the SDT is only 2 pin, i.e. not wired for ground. In order to ground the amp I need to run a wire from the chassis to a ground point in my studio. This also means that I can't use the amp at small gigs, which I would like to. The STD also weighs about 1.5kg and is a pain in the ass to have lying around. Question: Can I get a replacement 220v power transformer and just solder it in? Are there any other considerations when changing the transformer, do any other components need to be replaced? Any recommendations? Will replacing the power transformer affect the sound of the amp? Thanks in advance. Ben. |
